I found this interesting quote regarding Mangold and Revis possibly holding out training camp http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AsGlL7qXpGpGfopIRB5AuwRDubYF?slug=tsn-trenchestalkwhenwill
It would be nice if we didn't have to worry about all this in the first place. Hope Tanny is working on a contract for these guys right now.
Why not have this rule in the new CBA (assuming and hoping we get one)? Holdouts suck and if you miss training camp, you should lose credit for the season. Of course, the most important thing is to get a deal done, and I imagine the Players Union wouldn't like this so much.
this isn't a good rule and would never be agreed upon by the players association. this was simply a measure added as an attempt to avoid the uncapped year.
Nice find, and it makes that much clearer why players are going to be posturing now about getting new contracts. They know (and their agents know) that they have less and less leverage as time goes on.
You're right that the players would never agree to a rule like this but I have to contest it being a "bad rule". This rule would prevent players from holding out for more money which is a major reason why player contracts keep increasing exponentially each season because someone always wants more money. This rule would make it so that players would have to stay "true" to their original contracts and not force FOs into overpaying to keep players thus increasing ticket prices, merchandise prices, etc.
