probably for scrap metal. It's becoming a real problem as materials get scarce and prices get higher. Don't leave any big metal things laying around unlocked in public or they WILL disappear.

    great job bart.

couldn't help but laugh when she says at the end "bart is expected to replace those bleachers..." i just pictured him by himself rebuilding everything.

when you're high as fuck you could walk across the country carrying the empire state building

hopefully bart's smart enough to request bleachers be made of cement or something

This isn't crackheads doing this, it's highly organized crime. They roll around cities in trucks with a crew and dismantle stuff overnight. Like the old car stripping crews of the 70's.

    ^^^+1 this.

Metal's value (like any other commodity) fluctuates given market demand. When the market went soft a few years back, the price of metal dropped like a stone, e.g. as in the case of car sales tanking. Another example of commodity scavaging involved paper (when it had high value); 'pick-up vans' would scour neighborhoods and pluck the delivered bundled newspapers from stationary store fronts at say, 5:00 a.m. prior to the store's opening. Metal-picking has gotten to the point where some pirates have taken it to the extreme and have gone after the copper wires off railroad lines, sometimes to the point of risking death (e.g. Metro North).

That said, nice job Bart. I'm sure Mike Francesa and other Jet detractors will be giving you duly-deserved props for that 'Jet-man' gesture.

This is a real problem in CA right now too! Copper is a huge draw...tack on A/C units for homes to that too. With the high foreclosure rate thieves are heisting FULL bolted down units from the back of homes! Hell, even an elementary school was robbed of their A/C's!
