Drops haven't helped. A lot of drops. The passing game has become more vertical, which I don't get. Those are the reasons. Its called film study. Opposing OCs have all the film they need and have dedicated themselves to understanding how Rex's defense operates. The communication needs to be addressed as well. Historically, amazing defenses to drop the following year. There was an article about it. It came true. Deal with it. This team is a 2nd half team anyway. They proved it last year and this year. Stop zero coverage on 3rd and long and put a safety over the top. The 7 and 8 man rushes are not working this year. QBs and OCs have figured out how to deal with it. Its time to fix this. Sounds like a good place to blame Schotty. Zero coverage, deep passes. Its not rocket science. When they send 4-6, they're much more successful. Last year they could send 7 and it worked. Not this year.
And the next time I hear about "read progression" from someone. I want them to list the play called, the primary, secondary receiver, and so on. Let us know who the hot route was and the defense he faced.
I actually like the aggressive play calling with the passing game. the OP is correct in the fact that Sanchez is not setting his feet. It appears any time he is pressured he throws off his back foot. With that said, his footwork is 100x's better, and should only continue to improve. The deep passes will come with more attempts, and chemistry. Sanchez is missing many deep passes by yards, not feet. In his defense, Holmes isn't making great recovery to help him. I am excited for future games, and I assume the bye week will help.
A Rex Ryan quote on Sanchez... http://www.reuters.com/article/idUS...=Feed:+reuters/sportsNews+(News+/+US+/+Sports)
I was your savior. I was your knight in shining armor. In each of you, were the chinks upon my armor. Each of you were the chinks. You all were the chinks! Remember me, my chinks...
I chink I got a gook in my eye, Jap I do, Jap I do. My navy buddies never stopped saying that. I haven't heard it in about 7 years but it's burned into my memory.
Fun facts: if you sort the list of quarterbacks on the NFL stats page, Mark Sanchez if 4th from the bottom in "completion percentage." He's also 4th from the bottom in "interceptions." We'll all be pleased if those facts remain true the entire season, trust me.
