He's a good young football coach. His teams play hard, don't give up and win games. Whatever happens is a press conference is basically completely unimportant. He talks a bit too much - BFD - he's a good coach and an excellent leader. He has room for improvement, but so does everybody when they have just been on the job 2 yrs.
don't agree with you here as far as the media goes.that's what i meant when saying they're talking out of both sides of thier mouth. Sure he makes the beat writers job easier, but they sure seem to be taking some liberties in a negative way with whatever he's saying to sell papers..... and as far as the columnists go, yeah that's what their saying, but in my opinion their waaayy off base..the guy's been a head coach for 2 years, in year 1 with a rookie QB he led his team to the AFC Championship game...in year 2, to an 11 win season which this franchise rarely sees, so why are they stating it's fish or cut bait, or put up or shut up? I think most reasonable Jet fans understand that if they lose tomorrow, he still has done enough to continue to be who he is....and anyone who writes that if they do lose, he has to pipe down is dead wrong........if they came back next year and finished 6-10 then maybe we can talk about that.....
He brings up a good point about 24/7 -- there were more fbombs in one episode of that show than all of Hard Knocks, but nobody (Dungy included) said boo about it. I will be interested to see what happens down the road when the Jets have an off year -- all of Rex's bluster can't be dismissed now because the team is very good, so it sounds like he's just bragging. But if the team couldn't back up his words week to week, would he say the same things?
This is the key part to me. I get tired of people talking about how he's cocky and arrogant etc. He's confident and has no filter between brain and mouth. Whatever. He says he expects to win the Super Bowl. What coach doesn't? He says that he'll take his guys against anyone. What coach doesn't? Is he supposed to say, 'gee...hope we can get to NE next week but man I really think they're gonna murder us.'
I guarantee that he'd say something about still giving teams everything the team has even though they aren't that strong, and we are going to turn it around. I don't see him outright lying about the strength of the team on a 6-10 season, because he's not a liar. He's true to himself and everyone else.
Still don't get why anyone could have a problem with Rex. All he does is say he thinks his team will win and expresses his confidence in them. What's wrong with that? It's not like he's guaranteeing a win or putting down the Colts or anything. Wouldn't every team want a coach that confident, and to be that strong of a believer in his players?
gotta say this...after a bad loss, about the only jets related anyting i can stand and even look forward to is the rex ryan pressers. i always feel better after.
The part that I agreed with and I feel sums it up is that it's about winning. Period. You can be virtually any kind of personality, but if you can't back it up with wins, your act will grow cold and in the NFL (see Jerry Glanville's classic NFL Films line "You know what the NFL stands for? Not For Long!"). If Rex wins, he can say whatever he wants in the context of football and get away with it. If he doesn't win, he'll be another in a long line of Jets former coaches that will be fired. But not for talking, but for a lack of winning. I don't know why people get so riled up about the stuff he says. Outside of really insulting someone (for race, religion or sexual orientation), there is nothing he can say that will get him fired. Not winning eventually would.
I'll like Rex if his team plays disciplined, they consistently get 11 men on the field, the offense finds a flow, and his defense does that little bit better than last year that's needed to win the game.
I read that earlier, it was a good piece. You get the feeling that the writer thinks, Mike Lupica, is a twinkle toed midget cocksucker. They should put Lupica on that boat Rex talks about.
