Some of the unenlightened have not seen the glory of a full pamper streaked across the floor of a rollerskating rink on disco laser show day.
Maybin is a little punk sometimes I agree with you and I don't think he'll amount to much for the Jets even though I sure hope so. However, Maybin's comments may be geared towards the what I felt was classless commentary by your GM Nix on the day they released him. Nix said something to the affect of "maybe some team will find a role for him, but I just don't see it." He also spoke very tongue-in-cheek about his problems with gaining weight saying something like "he claims its his metabolism, and maybe it is.." That doesn't read too bad, but if you heard him say it, it was clear he was sarcastic/tongue-in-cheek. A general manager doesn't have to run a guy down on the day they release him, especially since by all accounts Maybin was a hard-worker and really tried to succeed for the Bills, not some cocky, slacker, who thought he was better than them. All Nix had to say was we decided to go in another direction, we appreciate his hard work and wish him well: not backhand him on the way out. He didnt even draft him so its not like he had to explain the pick even. So, by taking those comments in account I'm fine with Maybin wanting to make the Bills pay, I would be pissed off too if I was him to hear that. It sure would be awesome if he could become a capable pass rusher for the Jets, that would crush the Bills fanbase so much.
Guys we have super star corners, and they cover for 30 seconds, and Maybin is faster than Chris Johnson. I don't see how he doesn't get a sack everytime hes on the field.
Why all the beat writers try to discredit Maybin's strip-sack by pointing out that the 3rd string lineman was Canadian? Are Canadians supposed to be slow, Rich, or unable to play football?
Matthew O'Donnell went to Queen's University which is in Kingston, Ontario. (Coincidentally that's where my sister went to college and I've been on campus a few times) I didn't think it was a very big football school, but after doing some more reading on the university, apparently they've won more football championships than any other team in Canada.
And here are some quotes for you: "In March, Bills coach Chan Gailey admitted Maybin wasn't progressing as the team had hoped, and hinted that he was lacking the technique and work ethic to live up to his raw talent." "We provide a spark, but he's got to get his own fire going. I always talk to the guys about this is where we are, this is where we want to be and this is how we get to it. Individually, guys have to do that. This is where I am, this is where I want to be, now how do I get there? And we tell him all the time how to get there. But he's got to do it. Talking's over. You got to go get it done. You either do it or you don't." "A lack of fundamentals and questions about his [Maybin's] work ethic clouds him." And my friends at Penn State were critical of him coming into the draft for the same reasons I listed earlier. You might not agree with what I have to say, but that doesn't mean I conjure my opinions out of thin air.
being able to execute and having a strong work ethic are not the same thing. you can still work hard at something and not pick it up or execute properly. Vernon gholston actually had a good work ethic. he's just not a football player. I'm not sure that's the case here, but it's just an example of how "work ethic" seems to be a blanket statement for lack of production regardless of the issue. there is nothing definitive in your entire post that states he has a poor or questionable work ethic. Maybe he doesn't understand the scheme completely, maybe his instincts aren't right. etc etc
Not so fast. Gholston did have one preseason sack as well. Right now, they're neck-and-neck in my book. Then again, all Maybin has to do is tackle someone for a loss and he'll shoot up the rankings in my book.
I like what Rex did with him this game. Since he is a one dimensional pass rusher, he had him sit back a few times and read the play before coming in for the kill. Got a sack and a hit out of it.
