I have no worries about Kerley stepping in now to execute the wildcat. I cant believe this isnt a topic causing buzz. Brad did it outstanding but his runs were mostly straight forward and breaking a few tackles. Kerley looks hard to tackle and did you see the zip on his pass??? I know it was second string and preseason, but you can learn alot from execution. Good decision making, shiftiness, and presence. With 1st team O, it may look even better. The threat of his passes will open up alot more. Brad was a QB too but his throws didnt look to promising. Kerleys throws in practice and now a game were extremely accurate and had heat. I think our wildcat will be fine if not better.
Yeah it looked really good, especially the option, but I am more excited about the name, "Horned Frog"
Kerley is one shifty dude. Guy always has a blank face on too, whenever they show a close up of him on the field. Has a quick release when throwing the ball too. I had no idea what he was doing on that play. Looked like he was going around the edge, and then turned around like he was gonna go backwards. Whips his head around, and boom 18 yard completion. Would love to see packages with Kerley, and McKnight Thursday night.
he looked great running that package. i would love to see it against a starting team with guys like keller, greene, and holmes as his weapons. it has the possibility of being much stronger than the seminole we ran with smith
Can someone please explain to me why the wildcat is in fact part of a good balanced overall game strategy for this year? Especially when Schotty decides to pass out of the wildcat about twice a year generally on a 50 yard route with little to no chance of success. I can appreciate that it may yield a somewhat higher ypc than a standard run call in certain situations but surely the rhythm killing deceptionlessness of it counteracts the benefits. No? I could see it last year I guess when you wanted the ball mostly out of Sanchez's hands, but it was still pretty annoying to watch it kill 2 drives out of 3 after the inevitably shitty playcall/execution to follow when it didn't get a big chunk. If the point is that they're going to pass too this year, I'll believe it when I see it in a real game I guess.
I dont really want to see the wildcat during Sanchez drives, but if Sanchez cant get anything going, it's useful. Also the wildcat is great against the Bills, to rest Shonn a bit, and get Kerley/McKnight some work.
"rhythm killing deceptionlessness" = awesome. Whatever moves the chains works for me. Our offense often has trouble finding a rhythm, and the horned frog is a good way to create momentum. Horned Frog For the Win!
Juking the 2nd team is one thing....he will get crushed against ones. B. Smith could motor for first downs and was tall enough to see down field. I'll have to see more before I buy in to this experiment. I'm down for letting Mark take all the load and progress cause he needs it.
he will be running with our 1's though bud. He doesnt need to be tall, he will get in space and throw if needed. It will be different than when B Smith did it because of his skill set. Do you think before you reply? are you knowledgeable? do you just hate the Jets?
I loved the look of the new wildcat, and I love the new name Horned Frog. (sticking with the theme of Seminole, Tigercat, etc). Anyway, it looks like Kerley can throw the ball pretty well too. I didn't realize he was a QB in high school, so that's good. Brad Smith never threw the ball so defenses weren't completely sold on the passing threat in that formation.
I agree with some of this. Brad Smith was a big guy, and could run through people. Again though..I would rather not see the wildcat, and would rather have Sanchez out there.
It isn't just that though. If I trot out a normal one back set and run the ball, defenses will think that I've just run the ball from a normal one back set. Do ok on first down, bring out the same one back set. Guess what, defense has to respect the run. Passing opportunities open. Balance. Now let's run with the wildcat. Works ok/pretty good. Bring out regular set. Hmmmm....now we're either throwing it or we're going to be unbalanced with too many running plays. Great, now they're playing pass against a QB that needs every break he can get to throw successfully. I know, I'll run it now! Great...2.5 more yards since nothing breaks open after the wildcat ever. Shit they're really playing pass now that it's 3rd down and we ran it twice. Let's run again. How's our punter? How's our balance? How's our rhythm? Unless you're really going to balance the wildcat to almost 50% passing which is never going to happen in a million years....you're going to get wildly unbalanced and it's going to put extra pressure on the one man that needs it the least to fight that trend. I do not see it. If they can find some way to pass from it very effectively then yeah maybe I can see it...but why are we expecting things to be so fundamentally different, Brad Smith was a good QB too or doesn't that count?
Agree that i would always rather see our normal offense out there than this gimmick package. that being said, i think the brad smith size thing is a bit over rated in the horned frog. its designed to create space. its not meant to be a power, run dudes over type of offense. i think they believe that as well considering kerley pitched it to mcknight a few times, and threw once. bottom line, keeping the D honest by using the pitch and the pass more will create the space needed for kerley to run wild (no pun intended)
Except it's called the "Texas" at least the Jets' site says it is. http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...of-Texas/fc61b628-a50b-4d72-aff0-b738a882521d
normally you are right in some of those scenarios, however, the numbers dont lie. The wildcat formation causes a substitution issue and is fairly successful. Only to be used occasionally to catch a defensive unit off balanced. The wildcat works, otherwise they wouldnt do it. Brad Smith is not a better athlete than Kerley, its not true. Kerley isnt proven yet. Smith never made any spectacular moves, he ran uphill and fast. The scemes the Jets have have made many a player look phenominal.
