Baltimore, NE, SD, and Tenn are my division winners. That leaves two WC spots.

    In the Hunt

Cinci- Currently 4-2 with no real big wins (beat Buffalo, Jacksonville, Indy, and Clev). Rookie QB and WR who are Gelling nicely together and a strong D. I don’t see them in the mix with still 4 games against Baltimore and Pitt. 7-9 team* No playoffs

Pitt- Currently 4-2 Have looked like a shell of a team after representing the AFC in the super bowl last year. Defense looks old and slow, O line looks like garbage even after a nice week. No marquee wins yet (Sea, Indy, Ten, and Jac) and some big losses Balt and Hou). Still have a very winnable schedule with 6 games against Cinci, Clev, KC and STL. Should be 10-6 at least. *Wildcard spot

Buffalo- Currently 4-2 and have been really winning the turnover battle. Some pretty nice wins too (NE, Oak) but I am still not a believer. It takes good teams a while to learn how to win and the season is long. They have a last place schedule but still have Dal, NYJ X2, NE, SD, and Ten. They could easily be an 7-9 or 8-8 team when its all said and done. * No playoffs

Hou- Currently 3-3 with wins against Pit, Mia, Ind. The more telling tale is how they faired against good teams. Losses to Oak, NO, and Bal. Great running game and arguably the best WR in the NFL is the true identity of this team. Defense is still allowing too many yards in the air. However, their remaining schedule is very favorable (X2 against Jac, Indy, Car, and Cle, Cin). If they can steal one from Ten they will be in the hunt.
    10-6 *Wildcard spot

NYJ- Currently 2-3 should be 3-3 after tonight. Nice win against Dallas and beat a pop Warner team in Jac. Losses to NE, Oak, and Bal and where physically abused in all games. As we all know the offense is playing like complete dog shit. The once proud Defense has begun to wilt and is not even the strongest unit on the team (special teams). With a schedule that features SD, NE, X2 Buf, and at Philly we could see a team that finishes 10-6 or 7-9. Truly a hard team to figure out. *Misses the playoffs.

Oak- Currently 4-2 with wins against NYJ, CLE, HOU, and DEN. Losses to BUF and NE. Jason Campbell is gone for they year and this team will continue to try and pound the rock. With a schedule that features DEN, X2 KC, MIA, this team could still very likely be 9-7 even without their starting QB. *Misses playoffs

Actually Sanchez stood up fairly well against the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game last year. That game was lost on the defensive side of the ball early on. He also managed to hold his own against the Steelers in Pittsburgh during the regular season.

I don't think any QB stands up well against a defense like the Ravens unless the offensive line is playing at their peak. Any weakness up front is going to get picked on and the QB is in for a long day.

I believe very strongly that Brian Schottenheimer does not know how to handle having his offense attacked by an aggressive defense. Game after game over the years we've seen the Jets get rolled by strong pressing defenses. I think Paul Hackett also had issues when the other side was determined to get into the backfield at all costs.

It may be the Ravens now that are our bete noir but it wasn't too long ago that the Jets couldn't beat the Raiders for their life and the same basic problem applied: no way to stop an aggressive front seven from dominating the line of scrimmage.

The Jets had trouble with the Raiders pressure with Kevin Mawae in the middle, Jason Fabini at LT, Randy Thomas and Kerry Jenkins at RG and LG, etc. It wasn't the talent on the line it was the scheme that got disrupted. This was true with both Vinny and Chad, about as polar opposite QB's as you could get.

The problem this season was definitely the line but what was the problem last season?

The Jet's offensive schemes are always so passive and indirect. An aggressive defense just eats them alive and that has very little to do with Mark Sanchez, just like it had very little to do with Vinny and Chad against the Raiders.

Don't forget he was actually doing well against the Packers D last season if it weren't for his WRs 7 drops and two "fumble/INTs" or whatever the fuck those were.

A win tonight would be huge for our moral, confidence, e.c.t, but it would also mean were one game out in the WC, [since we're talking about that already]

    GO JETS!!!! 3-3 time!!!!!

Well, Miami beat them in 2008 (thanks to the Jets losing the final game of the season to the fins). Brady wasn't in a body cast, but a leg one that year. Miami 11-5, NE 11-5.

Miami was marching all over the D, too. Luckily, they dropped a bunch of passes and basically could not get out of their own way.

Seeing as we needed to actually beat the good teams in our way in order to win the division this season, I'd rather not focus on difficulty of schedule to this point. However, it's interesting to note that we're 5th in PPG in the AFC right now. 3 of the 4 teams ahead of us in scoring are the 3 teams we lost to: New England (2nd), Oakland (3rd), Baltimore (4th). We face the 6th highest scoring team on Sunday.

Our schedule eases up considerably, which is certainly good for playoff prospects, but I have to consider a WC appearance a disappointment at this point. We're not taking that step forward in the division. Granted, there's still time to improve, but I'd love to finally see a Jet team that can compete and succeed throughout the course of a season.

The Jets need to win all 3 games coming up to have a strong shot at a playoff spot. If they go 2-1 they will be 5-4 with a 4-4 conference record. Even if the wins are against Buffalo and San Diego they'll be in a tight spot at that point.

Somehow, you failed to mention that the Jets' wins have come against teams that are a combined 3-13. IMO, Jets finish 9-7 and get nipped out of a spot by Pittsburgh/Baltimore runner up and by the Raiders.

If the Jets can't beat good teams this year they won't get to 9-7. They've got KC, Denver and Miami left on the schedule and everybody else is very competitive at this point.

The NFL is very dog eat dog, something a Patriot's fan might not appreciate because you guys have gotten spoiled by Tom Brady. If you're not eating somebody on a given week the odds are really good you're getting eaten.

I see the Jets season basically as coming down to the next 3 games. If they go 3-0 they might make the playoffs. If they 2-1 they probably won't. If they go 1-2 or less it's all over.

Agreed, 3-0 over the next 3 and I think they get their Mojo back. Don't know why Jets fans are looking past San Diego though. Giants will be their make or break game IMO. They are good at what the Jets suck at. Giants rush the passer and run the ball well, the Jets don't defend against either particularly well. Wouldn't count on a sweep of the Bills either.

NFC games are rarely make-or-break games. For all we know, the Jets could have a good record and afford to lose that game. Or they could be eliminated by that point.

    Week 7 Rooting Interests

I figured I'd start this up next week during the bye week, but what the hell.. I was going to start a new thread, but since there aren't many games that matter, I figured I'd just post it here.

Here's who to root for in week 7.

Jets over Chargers - Do I really need to explain this? It's a huge game though. While Oakland is less likely to win the division without Campbell, the Jets really need to make a stand and beat a contender. This is a home game. San Diego is tough, but if the Jets are as tough as they're supposed to be, we should beat them. AFC game against a possible WC contender, gotta have it.

Cardinals over Steelers - This is where the Jets can get the most help Sunday. This game is in Arizona, and Pittsburgh has laid some eggs here and there in previous years. Arizona is coming off a bye with Whisenhunt always wanting to beat his old team. Don't get your hopes up, but Arizona has an outside shot at a win. If they get it, that would be HUGE for the Jets in the Wild Card race.

Texans-Titans: I'm rooting for Houston. Doesn't really matter either way, whoever wins this game we want to win that division and whoever loses we want to collapse. I think Houston is the better team, and winning this game in Tennessee would really hurt the Titans. We'll know more about who to root for and against in this division after this week.

Chiefs over Raiders - KC would move to 3-3 with a win, and yes, we'd prefer Oakland to win that division. But if Oakland's season collapsed, that also would work for us.

Ravens-Jaguars - Doesn't really matter. We would prefer Baltimore to win that division, and who actually thinks the Jets will have a better record than the Ravens at the end? You can make a case either way here. It's hard to root for a fellow AFC contender, but you can make a case.

Dolphins over Broncos - Big game in Suck for Luck. One of Miami's most winnable games, and Denver is 1-4. Miami winning this game drops them back to the middle of the pack for Luck.

Seahawks over Browns - Really kind of pointless, but Cleveland is in the AFC and does have an outside chance to make the playoffs. Seattle winning can't hurt.

Why pick the Giants game though, every game means something. Saying one game is make-or-break, other than the game going on this week, or a game against a fellow AFC contender later in the season, is premature. Chances are, every game will be a big game for this team.

Imo besides Pittsburgh because they'll be the 5th seed. the other teams fighting for the last spot are underwhelming. Teams like Buffalo, Cincy, and Oakland will eventually fade the team I'm worried about is the Titans.
