This is pointless for one reason and one reason only - Mark Brunell is the back-up. If this was a guy who was there to do more than collect a paycheck, it could at worst motivate Mark, or at best provide this team with another option at qb should Mark suck ass again. But when your qb is a guy the team trusts less than their starting qb to run the offense, giving him a few snaps is pointless..
"Nobody is allowed to say anything bad about our Marky!" Imo the notion of giving the #2 Qb snaps for practice "just in case" has been there all along. It is obvious they gave Brunell snaps to show dissatisfaction with Sanchez. As well they should be, meaning dissatisfied. After all, with a QBR rating of 29th among starters, he's lucky he has not been benched.
Right.. because the formula just made up this year by ESPN of all places that has Matt Hasselbeck the 5th best QB in the league and Matt Moore rated ahead of Matt Stafford is clearly the 100% absolute best and only way to measure QB's. Sanchez clearly sucks because QBR has him rated low. Great point! Brunell, or pretty much anyone else, would have been doing far better this year getting hit every play because his o-line sucks and with this garbage offensive system. Just like all the other QB's working with Schitty who have all performed so wonderfully..
It would have been more interesting than what will happen with Brunell here as the 2nd stringer. If Sanchez is here next year (admittedly very likely unless Manning signs here), the 2nd stringer better be someone who can challenge him, and if Sanchez wins out, be someone who can come into the game and play if Sanchez is doing what he did in games like Baltimore (scoring more for the other team than this one). Whether they draft someone, believe in McElroy, or sign someone, the 2nd string qb cannot be useless.
I've been touting this for a while now. That's pretty much the biggest problem with the offense. Of course the uman turnstyle Wayne Hunter has gotten Sanchez killed plenty of times. Are you people out of your minds? Do you really want the second coming Chad P (McElroy) behind center? Do you really want to bench Mark? Maybe this moce is a slight to Sanchez from Rex, but I think it would be smart to knock the rust off Brunell. 3 Starting QBs in the league are out for the season and we have a restaurant door for RT Maybe we should have Brunell prepared in case Sanchez is laid out again. And Chad Henne in next year for competition? AYFKM???
It's not really a motivational tool since Sanchez knows exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it... also because he knows damn well that Brunell isn't taking his place anytime soon. That said, it pisses me off that Ryan even feels like he HAS to play stupid little tricks on Sanchez to "motivate" him. I would think that the millions in his bank account and title of QB of the New York Jets would do that well enough.
All those QB's that the SOJ fans said were better than Sanchez -- Freeman, McCoy, Bradford, etc -- how they doing ?
He's a one-note poster and he's being treated as such. Criticism of Sanchez is fine, but becoming aroused at the news of Brunell getting snaps is not.
But that's the ticket man. Sanchez = bad so anything not Sanchez = good. Some of the really anti-Sanchez posters would no doubt hail the third coming of Vinny as an improvement.
I see nothing wrong with wanting to see a different QB starting for this team when we are on the verge of missing the playoffs. Maybe I don't know what we have until it's gone. If Sanchez leads us to the playoffs (beats the Eagles and Giants) I'll certainly shut up. But until then it remains to be seen.
If anyone besides Sanchez lines up under center (exception being a blowout of one type or other), Rex may as well just waive the white flag. Pulling Sanchez for Brunell would be a surrender. And Mark has very little confidence now, so I don't see how it could HELP him.
my concern with this move is that is seems the most damaging problem Sanchez has is his poor decision making. Not knowing if the offensive play calling is in response to his mental errors, or if the asinine play calling has undermined his confidence. In any case, it is probably as reinforcing loop, whereas his mental errors results is conservative play calling, which send a signal of no confidence and further erodes his self confidence, resulting in more bad play. So will this symbolic move further exacerbate his already error prone judgment?
Or maybe, just maybe, the offensive coordinator's play design, offensive scheme, and play-calling don't put his quarterbacks in a position to succeed? The evidence of this is really piling up and becoming overwhelming at this point. Whenever Schitty is crucified and his back is up against the wall, he pulls a well coached game out of his ass.. I expect that this week, where things will be opened up a little.. but we'll be back to the same old crap in 2-3 weeks.
RichCimini Rich Cimini Looks like Brunell still getting first-team reps. Took some snaps with starters during walk-through portion.
But what if the coaches just want to see what they have in case Sanchez sucks again? I see that as pretty intelligent...............and it sends a message to Sanchez at the same time........win/win
