God Oh Mighty are the NY Jets stressful to watch? Yesterday’s game is yet another case in point. Mistakes, mental errors, lack of focus, call it what you will but this team cannot stand prosperity. No lead is safe. No opponent shall be knocked out and completely taken out of contention. Every game must come down to the last play. Are you kidding me? This team is about to give me a heart attack. I read the hate against Mark Sanchez as he is the root of all evil. Please don’t get me wrong, he certainly has not developed the way we hoped for, nor is he the kind of player that can take the Jets on his back. Yes he is causing major pain with his pick sixes and untimely interceptions. But let’s be honest, where is the rest of the team. Who will step up and get the fire going? The D? The defense is not nearly as effective as it has been on years past. When the game is on the line I can no longer feel that the D will save the day. We got lucky yesterday with 2 dropped passes. Denver embarrassed us. That is unacceptable for a contender. We have in my opinion a much better D that the Patriots yet we don’t play like it. Special teams? Well that was traditionally our strong point but lately they have put the team in harm’s way. Fumbles cost us plenty. For us to have a real chance at the playoffs all the pieces need to come together and come together rather quickly. No one player can bear the full burden of responsibility. The over used term play like a Jet is sorely missing these days. We are playing to the oppositions strength rather than their weaknesses. The coaching staff needs to suck it up and make some changes that will motivate this team. It is time for Rex and our beloved Jets to cut the distractions and do our talking on the field. Jet fans deserve better than a heart attack in the making.
Having Bart Scott on the sidelines in the prssure situations at the end is very telling at this point. It's happened over and over again this season where the Jets go 6 DB's at the end with Scott on the sidelines and then the big drive against them happens. This is on the coaching. If Bart Scott is not a hole the rest of the game, and he's not, he wouldn't be a hole on that last drive either. Watching him on the sidelines at the end because the coaches don't trust him to be on the field against the spread tells me that this defense is nowhere near as good as it is chalked up to be. If it was that good then one of the main impact players on that side wouldn't keep watching the end of the game with the fans.
It would be sweet to see them cruise this week, but then it just wouldn't be a regular sunday without me nearly having a stroke watching this team play!
That's a nice post. On a positive note we have still to see an all round decent game from our guys and if they start a roll who knows.
I have been a Jets fan since 1967. It is extremely rare for the Jets to play any other way. They are agida defined. Yesterday was up there on the scale of stressfull games, for sure. When they went ahead with a minute to go, I told my wife they could still blow the game, and they almost did. I also told my wife, that being a Jets fan all these years has taken years off of my lifespan.
It's very hard to beleive that if they get to 11-5, there is any way they don't make the playoffs. How would it be possible?
The sad part is that ST is probably the best its ever been. The Jets Special Teams leads the league in every positive statistical category. Unfortunately, it also leads the league in fumbled turnovers. It almost cost the game yesterday. It definitely cost us the OAK game. Cro was trying to hard. Not sure why he's had fumbleitis - I think he's trying to make a big and he's breaking his concentration on the most important part of a punt return - catching the ball....
I agree with OP, but at the same time I'm somehow drawn in by the excitement (positive or negative) that the Jets bring. Anything can happen. But I understand this is a wacky way to see it especially when the excitement is usually negative. Never a dull game though.
Dont quote me but I believe any situation where there is another team that matches at 11-5 from Pitt, Balt, Cinci, Denver, or Tennessee. Our chances are at 23% according to playoffstatus.com/nfl/afcstandings.html and no control over a playoff spot atm.
The Jags game is the only one this season that comes to mind which wasn't a totally stressful experience to watch. I don't know what it is about this team but they just never seem to be able to assert their dominance over anyone. It would be nice to see a stress-free blowout win at least once in a while. I guess it's just the life of a Jets fan, but after 30 years it still drives me nuts...

Yeah we have no control with 5 games to go! so what!!! I want to quote you just so in 2 weeks you can look back and say "holy shit how things have changed" if you didnt notice 2 weeks ago we were going to win the division...now were digging for scraps trying to find a playoff berth. Pretty much if the jets win out they will be going to the playoffs. heck I could honestly see 10-6 getting in as well. The level of play overall in the NFL has been very inconsistent due to the lockout, across the board teams are competing and theyre are several upsets each and every week.
I'm telling you, this is the wrong kind of glue. This is made for, like, Kindergarteners. Look; "Non-toxic and safe," we don't want safe, we want toxic.
Excellent point. I'm still baffled why with such weakness and the need to go 6DBs we let go of Lowery. Something defensively just does not smell right.
