I don't think there have been any rumors about Pettine going to Penn State and Schotty going to Miami other than by Cimini himself.
Yeah I can just see the "you're not the boss of me", "oh yes I am" conversation starting up again. They probably had that thing going back and forth for the first 14 years of their lives, why would they want to do that again?
Schlereth and Hasslebeck were just on ESPN speculating that if Dallas doesn't make the playoffs, Ryan will be the fall guy and go one and done with the team. Interesting.
Jets defense is not even aggressive. They don't even have the front 7 personnel to be aggressive if they wanted to be.
A point to be made though is that Mangini was only a coordinator for a year and then we jumped the gun, Pettine has been here for 3 years already, he would have a much better chance of taking Ryan's schemes for his own team
I was just skimming this thread quickly, and when I passed this post I read the last sentence as "Personally I think Schotty ends up at KFC if McDonald's doesn't [take him]," thinking someone was making a Schotty joke, and had to do a double-take. Is there a word for a Freudian slip of the mind?
I just watched the coordinator press conferences on nyjets.com. Pettine said that there's been no contact either way regarding Penn State. He said, that is just someone putting his PA background together with an opening. He joked that he must also in be line for the Pitt job too. Shotty was also asked about the Miami job. There doesn't appear to be anything there either. I'm sure he'd consider offers, but I don't think his that high right now. And by the way, I watch these press conferences every week, and it is clear that Schotty is much more ready to be a HC than Pettine. He does a really good job with the media and comes across as the CEO of the offense. Pettine is an Xs and Os type of guy. He's gotten better doing these press conferences, but it isn't clear to me that he would interview well. While everyone can't wait to push him out the door, I think Schotty realizes that his age is a factor. He is still only 38. The list of successful coaches in their 30s is slim. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hang around longer....baring a firing.
I always notice in PCs that Schotty knows the name of every reporter and addresses them all by their first names. I suspect he'd interview well. If Pettine left I'd be shocked if anyone other than Thurman took over.
I don't think knowing the reporters says a lot, most teams have 1 group of reporters who are there every day of the week during practice (mike reiss for pats on ESPN, local boston reporters, etc), after every game, etc.
Sure, but he makes a point of always addressing all of them by name. For me, it comes across well and suggests he has some degree of talent for speaking publicly that might assist in an interview situation.
Agree. It isn't just that he knows their names, it is the way in which he addresses them and the comfort in how he answers the questions. He is polished, but in a natural way. If he ever left coaching, he would be a phenomenal TV analyst.
if schotty goes to miami it's because they failed miserably at landing a named coach. ross wants star power schotty is not that.
