According to Andrew Brandt, unused money in 2011 can be "carrired over" into 2012. I believe the Jets were 7M or so under the cap. Can anyone confirm?
so you can exceed the cap with rolled over cap room from the previous year?! is that just for 2012, or will that be ongoing? seems like it would encourage rebuilding teams to constantly lowball and rollover salary until they feel they can contend, at which point they would have a lot more $$$ to play with.
What I know for sure is that if for instance we have 7m cap room right now it will rollover to next years cap space whatever that will be. Take into account that from what I'm hearing next year the cap space will be great because of the new TV deal but I'm not expecting us to have more then like 30m cap room because we have guys like Bart Scott making like 9m and Calvin at like 8m next season hogging up cap space.
I think there's a 'cap floor' as well, not sure what the floor is, but this means there's only so much a team can 'rollover' from one year to the next. Watch some shit team like the Fins keep a roster at the 'floor' for five years and then have an extra $100 mil to grab every free agent. Can a team 'sell' a draft pic? Can we offer the Colts our extra $7M in cap space for their #1 pick?
I thought you could roll over like 4 million max? We definately have money to spend this offseason tho especially if release L.T. and a few other. Unlike popular belief, we are setup very well for next season.
This has been known since the summer but still good to get it reconfirmed. I don't believe the cap is scheduled to go up very much until 2013 which is why Tanny made the decision to save cap money this year for the rollover into 2012. The Jets won't have a huge amount of cap space but they should have room to get some solid free agents.
They can also borrow 1.5 million from a future cap year for next year. Even if the cap only goes up by 2 million, the jets will be at least 10.5 million under the cap. I definitely think the Jets won't have problems signing players. They can give them low salaries for 2012, its just that in 2013 you would assure yourselves that at least Pace and Scott were goners unless they took huge paycuts.
So let me get this straight. If the Jets end the NFL year $7MM under the cap, and start the next year $7MM under the cap, then at that point they'd be $14MM under the cap. Based on what I've been reading here that would be the case, and if it is, here are the 2 questions Jet cap gurus and fans will have to answer. What are the cap costs for players that will be under contract for the 2012 season. And, how many players more are the Jets going to have to sign to reach the 53 man limit From what I understand the Jets are going to have significant increases in cap costs due to the back loading and restructures of contracts like the ones recently signed by Harris, Brick, Mangold, Revis, Cro, Holmes, and Sanchez. Does anyone know approximately how much of a jump that is. I've heard the number $20MM in another thread here, but have no idea how real that is. '\\
http://nyjetscap.com/salary12.html They have the Jets at close to 9 million in cap space this year and have the Jets on the books for about 120 million going into next year before you count rookie salary. A moderate increase in the cap gives the Jets a manageable amount of cap space.
Last I checked saving 9 million was realistic..especially if you are trying to win. Of course if they keep him and Schottenheimer it will indicate they aren't.
Cutting Sanchez is a stupid solution thought up by stupid fans that would only hurt this franchise. 9 million would do us worlds of good with absoloutely no QB. Please tell me about how we get Peyton Manning, hire Tom Moore as OC and win the SB now.
At some point you decide if you have the team that can win. If you don't you cut your losses and move on. If you can say you seriously see how this team will ever win a superbowl with Sanchez and Schottenheimer then I would say you are delusional, or maybe you have seen something nobody else here has.
