I see what you're saying (and agree in principle) but the path to consistency for this team is winning the division. We might luck out with a wild card and make it to the big show but it's very unlikely.

IMO,that's the problem. A lot of people never saw that as a Jet fan and think it's was always success around here. I was pissed this year too,but i'm way over it now and for once feel that things will get worked out for next year. If not, then we can all start complaining. But as of right now,2 afccgs and 1 8-8...i'll have a little faith.

Always backing into the 6th playoff seed is no way to pursue a Super Bowl title. It has only happened twice in 45 Super Bowl games and the odds of it happening again are extremely slim.

Unless you are just happy to make the AFCCG (which seems to be the case the majority of Jets fans like yourself), the Jets need to win the division, get some home playoff games and a possible 1st round bye, and go from there.

Going to the AFC Championship game 2 out of 3 years doesn't sound like something that needs to be changed. I also don't agree with the idea of change for no reason (4 years of Obama and great depression 2 is the result of that kind of thinking).

This team has problems that need fixing. Whether getting rid of Shotty was a good idea or not he is gone and we need to build an offense that is effective and can make good use of the assets that we already have (Mangold, Brick, etc.). If we keep Tom Moore around and assemble a decent group of offensive coaches Rex does not need to be a genius when it comes to offense.

Our defense is aging and has some holes that need fixing but Rex has done a great job making due with the players we have when our offense couldn't give them any rest.

This team needs to add talent, youth, and speed to get past the Patriots and to win the SB. Rex Ryan and our defensive coaching staff are not the problem.

So what is so different between the 87-96 NYJs & the 97-2011 NYJs? They are all LOSERs no matter how far they have gotten in the POs right? In that 24 year period exactly how many VLTs have we won?

I believe there are other teams out there that are LOSERs, too.

Or did they win a VLT when I wasn't looking?

Each year there are 31 losers in the NFL.

It's just that some teams have done it longer than others.

Most of the whinny youngsters never would have made through or stuck with the Jets we cut our teeth on junc. Hell I am surprised they made it through the 4-12 seasons in the last decade. 1-15 would have turned them into ship jumpers really quick.

i cut my teeth on those bad teams.

that doesnt in any way shape or form happy that the team is decent. id much rather perennial division winners with real superbowl probabilities.

Didn't the Steelers, Giants, Packers all do it recently. Or were the Steelers the 5?

Backing in didn't happen either year also. Backing in means losing the last week and getting in from how I interpet it. The Jets won their last 2 in 09 and clinched the playoffs in week 16 in the other.

I don't agree that many Jets fans are just happy with the AFCCG, but to not acknowledge it as a step in the right direction for this franchise would be wrong. The AFCCG also showed we can make the game and compete with our coach and his ground and pound philosophy.

While yes winning the division would be the easiest path, it is a lot harder when we have you guys going 14-2 and 13-3. Wanna throw in a nice 8-8 season next season for us? :)

which is easy to do when you fluke onto an elite QB and not so easy when you have not yet had that good fortune.

Two Afc title games and one 8-8 Season and people want Rex fired? I think even if Rex talks smack it's refreshing compared to Mangini and Herm days. Most Football teams haven't even sniffed a .500 season. We talk the talk for sure and we have to walk the walk and get guys like Tom Brady pissed the fuck off. The commentators and critics are fly by night fair weather bandwagoning MTF's. If we were in the playoffs they would be saying we were favored do to the previous years.

Christ Almighty some of you guys are crybabies.

The Giants missed the playoffs last year. Pittsburgh missed the playoffs in '10. New England missed in '09. Notice how they didn't fire Coughlin/Tomlin/Belichick, and their fans didn't decide to boycott their games.

It's really fucking hard to make the playoffs every year in the NFL, and you don't get back by freaking out and firing everybody after one tough season.

Yes but we are NOT talking of other teams we are talking of the NYJs. Are you really/truly interested in some other NFL team that has not won a VLT? In case U missed we have now gone 43 years & won NOTHING
