http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/01/28/la-canfora-manning-decision-made-weeks-ago/ The he said-he said between Colts owner Jim Irsay and QB Peyton Manning this week ended awkwardly with a joint statement from the duo, an effort to “dispel any misperceptions.” Apparently, they talked it out. Just how far? “According to sources who were involved in the Colts’ GM search, the organization was planning to move on from Manning weeks ago, well before this public squabble between the quarterback and his owner,” NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora said Friday on “NFL Total Access.” “So Friday’s joint statement won’t be changing a thing.” Irsay took to Twitter on Saturday night to respond, saying, “No he hasn’t been released nor was a decision reached weeks ago.” La Canfora reported the Colts will make a move on Manning “almost certainly” before the start of the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine. That means Irsay only will be able to avoid the distinction of being the owner who dumped Manning for a few more weeks. It’s difficult to blame Irsay for the circumstances, though, given Manning is owed a $28 million roster bonus and the owner has acknowledged his franchise is rebuilding with a new front office, new coaching staff and the likely choice of Stanford QB Andrew Luck with the top overall draft pick. It’s difficult to see where Manning fits in that scenario, on a team that could be without veterans Reggie Wayne, Jeff Saturday and Robert Mathis. The subtle messages from Team Manning have suggested as much. It seems the best use of time now is to determine where Manning fits best.

"Potential destinations" mentioned are San Francisco, Washington, Seattle, Arizona, and the JETS. Pros and Cons for the Jets: "I like the Jets" "They have a solid defense" Mentions Holmes and Burress as pluses... "Solid tight end position and run game"
This thread is going to get very long. He won't be coming here, but I guess you never know for sure. I think the 49ers is pretty unrealistic. They have grown to love Alex Smith. Miami...no... won't happen. They're looking for the future. Arizona? ugh...possible, but they aren't very good so I doubt he'd want to go there... Washington...same thing...Seattle...same thing... Oakland... same thing... It seems to me he will retire.
It becomes really interesting if he can't play this year..will he really be sitting in the stands somewhere? Will he retire? Will he want to be walking somebody's sideline anyway? Who is going to pay him to do that?
1. Colts moving on from Manning is only logical and makes sense. 2. I believe Manning will retire. 3. E/P can adapt to Coryell style air assault - know that it can be done. Out of all offensive systems, E/P offers the most flexibility - it can incorporate elements of WCO (as Pats are doing) or Coryell style if needs be. Its base is rooted in strong rushing attack (as Parcells would like) but that does not mean E/P will take the shape of ball control offense through the ground. 4. If Manning does come to NY, that seals the fate of Sanchez as a New York Jet. Jets will have to draft another QB in a few years AGAIN. This is about as stupid as it can get.
And now Irsay says no decision has been made which is of course what you expect because the next question would be why has he not been cut if you aren't bringing him back. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...s-colts-says-decision-peyton-manning-not-made
probably wants to wait until the last minute to make it look like a gut wrenching decision when it isn't.
Manning is retiring in my opinion, I don't think this is an injury he can or even want to come back from. He's competitive guy but does he really want to start over at a media circus where every bad play is criticized and looked at under a microscope? Any other team that may be interested in him (I believe the Niners are gonna build around Alex Smith) probably sucks and is more than a QB away from contention.
I think he is going to try his best to play but there is a better chance of him not playing than playing with the Jets
