He blocks better than DK, Cumberland and Baker. And by blocks better, I mean he actually blocks. Oh and his name isnt Matt Mulligan
I agree getting a vet safety would be great but thanks to the franchise tags there is not a single really good safety available in free agency and if there was we couldnt afford them. landry looks like the best option and according to the reports I have seen the guy is injury prone (played half the games the last 2 seasons and likely to miss time this season with achilles issues) and would be a risky signing
8-8 last year, losing to a couple shitty teams. Jets to need to upgrade. I realize we don't have a lot of money in the cap, but we need to upgrade in at least 1 position. Then in the draft we don't have to trade up again because we need absolutely need a guy in a certain position.
See this is the part your missing it a bit on. We can't afford the big upgrade, so we are patching the holes with serviceable guys going into the draft so we can focus on BPA at a long term need not an immeidate need. If we make the splas for the up grade, with our cap space, we are leaving several gaping holes.
Spot on post. I agree with this 100%. Makin a big splash hurts us in the long run and we aren't only one player away.
We dont have to make a splash to upgrade a position though? By adding Edwards (if he’s healthy) and a safety like Reggie Nelson is by no means a splash, but both would be upgrades. We currently have 2 safeties under contract- one is strictly a ST’s player and the other can play in sub packages. We absolutely NEED to sign at least one capable safety in FA. Signing an okay safety would be an upgrade but not a splash. The only player still available that would constitute a “splash” is Mario Williams, and there is about .00001% chance of that happening.
Per Manish: The Jets freed up about $1.1 million by parting ways with safety Gerald Alexander and WR Michael Campbell. #nyj
Thanks. Given our cap situation I don't think we're looking to spend that type of money on a blocking TE with potential. Sounds like he'd be a great fit for the offense we'll be running but I think we can probably find someone in the draft in the mid-late rounds.
He’s arguably this years top safety, but that doesnt mean he’s going to be paid like a superstar. Martellus Bennet was arguably the best TE in the FA market and he didnt get paid something ridiculous.
Yes, but I assume when I see people saying "we need an upgrade" or "we are doing nothing" that they want the big name. Nelson would be a upgrade. Edwards should be, but lets face it, the guy was cut in January and has been free to sign since then with no action. Something is holding teams up. He's not even a blip on the offseason Radar for now. Nelson and Edwards are nice low cost additions. Guys like Wimbley, Williams, and Winston are not in the cards for the Jets.
I think a free-lancing safety fits better in aggressive defensive schemes than read-and-react defense like F-B 3-4 the folks up there in Foxboro runs. Since Nelson may not command top dollar, I am thinking maybe Jets can snatch Nelson and Meriweather for the safety job. (Nelson at FS/Meriweather at SS). Meriweather looked competent playing in the box so that is another bonus in Ryan's schemes, no?
omg wtf it's been over 26 hours now and we haven't signed any splasherz. FIRE THEM ALL! 0-16 here we come.
