It is a great day to be a big fat arrogant yankee fan! and thats just what I am....it was a fun season red sox fans...see ya next year
This year is going well, but I'm confused about next year. There needs to be some trade. Melky HAS to have a full time spot on this team. It's not fair to him, the Yankees, the fans if he doesn't. Matsui will be back. He won't go anywhere. PR nightmare. He's a defensive liability (at least when compared to Melky). Damon and Abreu are here to stay. Sheffield has no place on this team, and I don't even want him at this point. He'd make things more complicated. The only solution I have, and it's not perfect, involves Giambi being the first time first baseman, Matsui getting most of his time at DH (backup CF), Abreu in right (he is perfect for this team). With the way things stand now, that's what I see.
It would piss me off, but Cabrera is the Yankees most valuable trading chip by far. They could really upgrade the starting rotation with him.
Another mediocre perfomance from RJ but he gutted out 7 innings which was well needed and got the win. If I was a pitcher, I wouldnt be too happy about that pitching line. Luckily Joe resisted the urge to put Proctor in. Sports web sites are already calling this Boston Massacre part deaux. I dont think that it is at that point yet but if they can beat Schilling and then they get Wells, it is a strong possibility. As for Melky, I really want him on the team next year. He has earned his spot but like KH said he can bring back plenty in a trade.
Hell no we dont trade Melky hes young and is gonna be a very good player. If anything we should sign and trade Sheffield.
That won't solve the problem of having Damon, Matsui, Abreu and Cabrera next season. Unless one of them can learn to play 1st base we are gonna have a serious glut.
Well guys, I'm back. I wound up missing a lot of the game as we were out back-to-school shopping for the kids. I'm very happy though with the way things turned out. Devil, don't give up hope man. Yeah, things look a little bad right now for you guys, but there is no reason why you can't still hope for that wild card. It's not going to be easy, but keep the faith. Jeez, if anyone has learned faith over the years, it's a Boston fan. As far as the Yankees, and the left field situation, sorry, I have been saying it since Melky took over the spot, he belongs here. His D is vastly better than Matsui, and his arm is so much better. I have had the same idea as MisterMoss all along. When Matsui comes back, he is the full time DH. Cabrerra in left, Damon in center, and now Abreu in right (obviously I thought Sheff would be the RF, but Abreu is one of the greatest moves in Cashman's career.) Sheff is done, sorry man, shit happens. Giambi plays first, and that's that. So we would look like this: Damon CF Jeter SS Abreu RF ARod 3B Giambi 1B Cano 2B Matsui DH Posada C Cabrerra LF That's one helluva lineup. So how did ARod do today? I know I caught him striking out. That did piss me off a little bit. I go and vehemently defend him, and he shits on me, LoL. Did he manage anything the rest of the day? BTW: Sterling isn't that bad. He's just a clown. Given the choice between Sterling and Kay, I would take Sterling every time.
That's an insane lineup bordering on being just plain unfair. ARod didn't have that great of a day both offensively and defensively. Aside from striking out, he also stranded abunch of players on base. During the first half, he grounded out into a DP while the bases were loaded, I believe. On the positive side, he did manage to bring in two runs with a double though. Also, he ended up scoring after being walked in the 6th inning, when Boston started to completely collapse.
Actually this is my new strategy. I did the avatar thing in 2004 when the Sox were playing .500 ball for a while and they ended up winning it all. Of course, that team didn't have the injuries and pitching problems this one does.
Im stunned at how bad Beckett pitched today...9 walks!! Coming into the series, I would of been happy with 3 of 5. But now surely that cannot go, to take 1 of the next 2 we'd all just about sign up for... Johnny Damon has been flat out amazing this series, and a VERY good pickup this year...Playing through his injuries, putting Jeter in his coveted 2-hole and setting the tone leading off...What I like is how he and others are bringing a swagger to the clubhouse, just like what he, Millar and others did in Boston...Everything was business with the Yankees, now it seems like their more loose, and full of smiles. All in all...A great offensive series...Tomorrow night a marquee matchup and it should be a very good game.
None that matter on the pitching staff though. And missing Sheffield doesn't really hurt when you can go buy Abreu.
Not in the rotation (unless you count Randy Johnson's suckiness as an injury. And I guess you could make a case for Carl Pavano, but I don't think anybody expected a contribution from him anyway. Also Shawn Chacon was supposed to be a contributor.) But in the bullpen we had one key injury that people are going to laugh at when I name: Tanyon Sturtze. He may not be the greatest pitcher, but realistically his injury more or less doubled Scott Proctor's innings. BTW I really feel sorry for poor John Henry, who couldn't afford to pay Bobby Abreu if he was aquired....
Sturtze was a BIG loss. People may not agree, but IMO he was a huge part of the pen. It definitely set Proctor and Vallone up for a lot of innings they shouldn't have had to pitch. Hopefully next year he will come back and be able to pitch like he did last year. That would really make our pen strong. Sturtze, Proctor, Vallone, Dotel, Farnsworth, Mo. That could be killer.
