Jets | Team checks out Duckett; and Atlanta checks out the Jets Sun, 20 Aug 2006 07:07:52 -0700 Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets sent senior personnel consultant Jesse Kaye to Green Bay last night to scout Atlanta Falcons RB T.J. Duckett. The Falcons sent a scout to FedEx Field to scout the Jets. Atlanta is looking for help at wide receiver and safety, meaning WR Justin McCareins and S/CB Derrick Strait could be involved in the trade discussions. It sounds like both teams are pretty serious about working a trade out. I would be happy with Duckett. He is a BIG RB that could pound defenses. He would be nice to have inside the 5 yard line. My question is...would Duckett be a 20+ plus carry RB or would he be a part of a RBBC? I would prefer he become the full time starter
McCareins is useless and Strait is expendable. I'd give up either, or both, in order to bring in a RB that can hammer it into the endzone.
Just for arguement's sake, let's say Falcons get: Justin McCareins Derrick Strait Jets get: TJ Duckett Conditional 4th round pick (becomes a 3rd rounder if Duckett does not resign with the Jets) Is that fair?
I'd do that. Strait is not contributing anything at the safety spot that Coleman/Smith/Washington can't give us. I'm concerned with letting McCareins go because while he may not make a good starter, he could be a solid #3. So for me it's basically McCareins for Duckett and a draft pick. At this point, I'd go for it.
Not really, you're talking about giving up a WR the entire Jets organization has soured on and it's been reported could be cut, and a CB that all reports say is way down the Jets depth chart. Wanting us to give up our #2 RB, that has been very productive in his backup role, and after watching Duckett as the only bright spot in our running game last night with Dunn not playing. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be trading him at this point. Not to mention it's been reported that there are 4 teams that are interested in Duckett. So if we trade him, it will be for the best deal, and that doesn't include losing picks.
If they'll take McCareins for Duckett straight up, do it (they won't). I don't see Duckett as a huge upgrade to our running game. Straight, while not real impressive, has shown athletic ability and versitality as a dback which seems to be very important to Mangini. I'm not saying he's someone we HAVE to have on our roster, but I think he adds some value. If we were talking about Turner or McCallister my tone would be much different.
i think we should just pull-a-partiots and bring jerome bettis out of retirement they can do it with seau, why cant we????!?!??
Well, I wouldn't mind a trade for Duckett. To lose two guys who might not even stay on the team for a decent RB, would be huge. And even a third rounder. I do have to say, watching the highlites of last nights game, the RB's looked a heck of a lot better. I still think it would be more of RBBC, with Duckett getting about 20-ish carries a game.
