If he stays healthy and equates what he kind last season, I'll be thrilled. He's a playmaker on 3rd down. As for the added weight...one thing to keep in mind is that the Jets training staff has had success at fixing weight problems. They did it for Bryant THomas & D'brickashaw Ferguson, who both came into the league having big frames but strugglung to keep on pounds.Takes alittle while but they're very good in this regard and if a method is there to help him keep on the weight they'll find it.
Fine I get that. But realistically, as a head coach, what else should you say? If you go on record essentially dismissing your team's chances of winning a Super Bowl from the get-go, what does that communicate to your team? I firmly believe that no matter how good or bad your team is, a HC should always believe - 100% - that he can win a title with the squad he has. The HC's job is to be head motivator as much as head coach, and some times you need to say things like that to get the players believing in themselves. Deep down, I don't think Rex honestly believed they were better than New England the last two years, but that didn't stop him from conveying his 'guarantee' to the organization and its stakeholders. In football, moreso than any other sport, anything can happen on gameday. Rex believes in that concept perhaps more than any other HC in the league, which is why he gets absolute buy-in from his players.
vernon gholston is going to be awesome next year... after a year working with our new coaching staff and learning how to be a true nfl olb. the game will slow down for him.. oh wait. yeah how about we wait for tc to see just how great this guy who has already proven himself to be just about useless will be.
a gholston comparison sorry, but Maybin had 6 sacks for the Jets in his less than ONE full season which is infinity percent more than the ZERO sacks big vermin had in his three year plus NFL CAREER with the Jets AND the Bears
Any chance I can tie you down to a percentage probability that you think last year was his ceiling? Or will the number be too low to justify covering your back end?

1) Bills reached for Maybin and couldn't coach him up. Not the end of the world. Happens to a lot of franchises. They whiffed and didn't come up with a strategy to make it work. Get over it. 2) Jets saw potential and did a better job of putting him in a position to succeed. End of story. Bills are improving as a franchise. Be happy about it. It'll make it a lot more fun to go see them when they move to toronto.
Wow thats awesome, if he could even play at 250, that would be incredible. Good for him, looks like he’s working hard and wants to be a full time starter.
Think it was even less then that TBH. Couple things i've seen had him around 220 during the season. He's bulked up a couple times in the offseason but with his metabolism he says he has a hard time keeping it all on with a full season workout.
I know April 26 was a while ago,....and this could be wishful thinking,.....but maybe this factored a little bit into the FO/CS decision to bypass Ingram/McClellin/Upshaw.
I heard that on this board once before, pre-draft. To be fair, there are probably a lot of undiagnosed concussions that go on in college football.
If metabolism is truly that much of an issue, there needs to be a compromise between in-season conditioning and rest for Maybin. Alternatively, he could just eat a shitload like he seems to be doing now.
