I'm guessing it would be Scott. I think he played some OLB in Baltimore. Maybe some demario davis too ...
It makes perfect sense with all the youth and depth on the DL. It will also keep the LBs fresh if they rotate. In Rex we trust!
This is a logical step - but a bridging step, I would have to guess. As it stands, Jets are weak at safety and LB. Very strong at CB, and young/talented at DL. Thus, it makes sense to spread the responsibility a little between LB corp and DL this year. Regardless of what happen this year, I am inclined to think that Jets will overhaul the safety spot next year. (Two hold-the-fort aging vet signing tells me that.) LB will take a back seat again (at 2nd round) or will be addressed the next season.
Not reading much into this. This is like "Hey NE, we're gonna run only 4-3 against you don't bother prepping for the 3-4." Doubt it, you'll be seeing all sorts of looks in every fuckin game with this team. The reason they're gonna use more 4 man fronts is probably because Wilk, Coples and Maybin can get after the QB.
This makes sense given that the jets now have pass rushers and are lacking in the linebacker department.
I'm a big fan of building schemes to the personnel as opposed to implementing something without the right people for it
Demario Davis is perfectly built to be a 4-3 OLB. probably better than a 3-4 ILB. either way our DL allows alot of flexibility with defensive scheming. I cant wait.
i know our linebackers aren't good, but still david harris is good and it sounds as if bart scott has gotten a lot better (i know thats what rex has been saying, but even reporters have said theyre impressed with scott). i think our LB core wont be weak this year
I dont think Maybin has anything to do with it since he wouldn't have a spot on a 4-3 D. I'm not saying we won't see Maybin ever because I bet they still run the 3-4 alot, but when they do switch he will have to come off the field because he's not playing DE in that D due to his limitations and he's not going to be covering anyone at the LB position.
^Maybin is better suited for the 4-3. He's a one dimensional player, pure passrusher. He has no spot in the 3-4 because he can't play in coverage and gets beat too much in the run game. We'll see him a lot on 3rd downs like last year, but more involved on 1st and 2nd according to the speculation in this article. He has also added ~20 pounds apparently which will help him become a more versatile player.
When we put pressure on the quarterback we cause a lot of problems, and our defensive backs are among the most elite in the league. Stop the run and force them to pass it to Revis and Co.
I thought this was something that they would do this year and maybe full-time next year. By moving DeVito to tackle our DL could be a dominant force.
"The defense believes it can get back to its 2009 form, when it was No. 1 in the NFL. It dropped to No. 5 last year." 10 years ago we would have danced in the streets to be No 5 in defense. Now we suck at #5. Amazing how a coach and a mindset can change an entire team and fanbase. That little snippet was taken from this article.... http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets...a9dMak6WbXZON?utm_medium=rss&utm_content=Jets
The Jet linebackers might not be the Steel curtain but they are not bad linebackers. Calvin Pace is no slouch. David Harris is a stud. Bart Scott is a very good run defender. Now we have Demario Davis who is being compared to Ray Lewis. Bryan Thomas was solid. This group helped the Jets defense ranked #1 #3 and #5 the past 3 seasons - I don't see why these guys get a bad rapp?
