The Steelers probably lost DeCastro for the season yesterday. That's something I think the Jets have to be careful about, especially bringing Holmes back if he's not quite ready just to score a TD in preseason.

I might be inclined to confinue to sit holmes and the other guys if they're not quite 100% yet. We don't need something like this happening to any of our players in a meaningless game. The Jets are going to really need Holmes this year, hope they give him whatever time he needs to heal up and don't just put him in there to get the media and the fans off their back about the preseason touchdown thing.

I'm sure the Jets are going to be careful with Holmes. That's probably why he hasn't played to date.

I know but I just get the feeling they want to put him in there to score a TD and get the media and fans off their back. Hope he's really ready to go and the Jets aren't pushing him to perform before he's ready. With the receiving corps we have right now we can't afford to lose Holmes.

Not sure why you think this. He'll play because he's ready to play. I think you're reading into this too much.

I saw him in a press conference. Is it me or does he seem more humble and serious?

Tough break for him. After his injury I've been reading up on the fieldturf and player complaints. Wonder if it's possible for a stadium n the North East w/ two football teams to have natural grass. Anything to help reduce player injuries in a sport like football should be prioritized.

Coming back to Holmes, I wouldn't worry about it so much. As a WR, he'll have much more control on whether he takes big hits or not. He'll probably be more focused on running his routes & just trying to get separation against real competition. If Holmes sees some passes, I'd be surprised if he's getting them while he's running over the middle.

Jets have kept the O pretty vanilla and although it looks ugly as hell ... the injuries have been kept to a minimum.

I've felt the same watching him in press conferences and not hearing much out of his mouth. I was surprised he didn't say anything publicly to Cro for injuring him in practice.

    Holmes is still a dick.

holmes is on a 10 - 14 snap count as if it were week 1 of preseason.

injuries happen...the steelers did nothing wrong to cause decastro to get hurt...holmes could tear his ACL on the first play...its part of the game.

the jets cannot afford to sit holmes...he needs to get in there against some live action before week 1 or he could be in for a slow start.

Santonio had a say in hiring Jets’ receivers coach

At the start of the offseason, Jets receiver Santonio Holmes was viewed by some as a destructive force in the locker room. But Jets coach Rex Ryan still thought of Holmes as not only the Jets’ best receiver, but a player who deserved to be consulted on the direction of the team.

So before Ryan hired Sanjay Lal as the Jets’ new receivers coach, he set up a meeting between Lal and Holmes and asked Holmes to weigh in.

“It was important to make the right hire,” Ryan said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I wanted them to get a feel for each other.”

Holmes said he approved of Lal after meeting him at Ryan’s house.

“Sanjay was the right guy to bring in at the time,” Holmes said. “When we met at Coach Ryan’s house, we saw eye-to-eye with everything that we talked about. He’s a tough-nosed guy, very mechanical, loves to work on technique and doesn’t take any B.S. from the receivers.”

If Holmes is welcoming a coach who won’t take any B.S., that alone is progress in the Jets’ locker room.

Holmes acted like a dick but its obvious the guy wants to win. Thats why he was starting fights with the O line and Hunter in particular. They were holding Sanchez and receivers back. I think Holmes will have a bounce back year.

I think we'll find out a lot about what Holmes is made of after the first time he gets blasted on a route. If they send him over the middle tonite though, I would be surprised.

what the hell does a random knee injury that can occur on any play have to do with keeping Holmes out to prevent his ribs from being injured further? by your logic, we shouldn't play a single player tonight if we are concerned about a random injury occurring that has nothing to do with a pre-existing ailment.

there simply is no comparison between an injured player that you want to heal and a healthy player that suffers a random albeit typical football injury.

don't project your insecurities and fears onto the team and coaching staff. there is absolutely nothing the Jets have done to even remotely intimate that they want to get Holmes a pre-season TD to get the media and fans off their backs. you completely made that up, which means that asinine scenario reflects your own issues, not the Jets'.

Seems like you missed the entire point of the original post bro. Also to assume that the Jets O isn't under pressure to score a TD in this game is to ignore what every sports talk personality and fan has been saying all week. I don't think it's far fetched at all to assume Holmes is starting because they feel pressured to score tonight. You may feel differently, that's your choice, but let's keep words like "asinine" to ourselves from now on K? Thanks.

I will be happy to drop "asinine" because jeopardizing the regular season just for favorable press in the pre-season is beyond asinine, it is pure fucking stupidity.

there is nothing from the Jets that would leave anyone to believe they are so concerned about sports talk personalities pre-season opinions that they would jeopardize the health of Holmes and his availability for when the games count. which, again, makes that your issue, not something for anyone else to have to be concerned about.

I don't know, have you seen how many angry fans there are on this message board? There needs to be a press conference.

Ever since teams figured out the "holmes slant".He has been useless.Last time he played he got shut down.so I could care less if he plays or don't play.Look at revis last year he held out.No reps and got hurt cause of it.
