It's no secret, that this season the Jets have had a ton of injuries. In the past, the Jets were usually a fairly healthy team. Losing strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi hurt. They should bring him back, screw the tripping incident.
He was removed mid year. After working throughout camp and part of the season. Its not like the day he leaves everyone falls apart. I do think he was a better S & C coach than our current one.
The injuries this year are random. Both of the major ones involve things (ACL, Lis franc) that no amount of conditioning will shield you from. The muscle pulls in camp were different but still probably random. The Jets have been pretty lucky with injuries recently. Aside from the Leon Washington broken leg and the continual issues with Kris Jenkins surgically repaired knees (predictable) they've been pretty healthy. This year they're a little bit less lucky than the average team instead of a lot more lucky.
don't forget 2 years ago not only had we lost Jenkins but also Leonhard and Woody. we also lost Revis, Mangold, Cotchery and others for parts of the season so I wouldn't call us lucky in 2010.
Revis was holding out in 2010 so he didn't have a chance to take advantage of Sal Alosi and the training staff and got hurt very early in the season.
At least part of the hamstring issues in camp were due to Sparano working the offense a lot harder than under Schotty. More reps = more injuries.
We've lost our best player for the year in Revis. We then lost one of our best players on offense in Holmes. We also lost our #2 receiver in Hill and our #1 pass catcher from last year in Keller for the majority of the season so far. I agree that in previous years we have been lucky, but we have been pretty unlucky this year, not just a little bit.
We lost our starting nose tackle who played hurt. We lost his back up. We lost a backup LB for the season. Back up RB is hurt and maybe the other back up RB as well. We've been pretty unlucky for sure.
I whole-heartedly agree with this. I thought it sucked he had to pay for it with his job but it was an offense worthy of termination. However, we truly miss him.
they should bring him back just not let him on the sidelines during games haha and the jets have been much more than just a little bit more unlucky than the average team. like others have pointed out, we lost our best player on defense and offense, our 1 and 2 nose tackles, other back up lineman, our number 2 and 3 running back, our number 2 receiver for most of the year so far, our number 1 tight end, our number 2 tight end for a little bit, our number 3 tight end while the number 2 was out, our starting fullback, our starting center came out of a game and is now probably harboring a lingering injury, back up linebackers and corners. its a little ridiculous
the major injuries have been non contact ligament injuries...nothing sal could have done to prevent that. however you could make a solid argument for the training camp soft tissue injuries that seemed to be non stop and perhaps Sione's back issues.
Your over looking the impact of limited pratices and workouts that came along with the last CBA. The offseason and traning camp programs are much shorter adn the padded practices much few than in the past. Players who under or over train on thier own becasue team involvement has been limited are causing the strain issues and as Turk said, no ammount of training is fixing what happened to Revis or Holmes.
Honest question. How many of you ever played organized football?High school or above? And if H.S., where? This is part of football. Ever had your knee taken out while your foot was planted? I have. No amount of conditioning can stop that from happening.
