Why didn't we want Hue Jackson, who is getting raves in Cincinnatti (have you also seen how Oakland's offense and record have plummetted since he left) ? And Todd Haley....he was here with Parcells....highly-combustible, I know, but he worked wonders in AZ. Those guys had offensive reputations and resumes and we didn't pursue them. Damn. Did I miss on any others ?? I know Norv Turner would have been a hot commodity but San Diego brought him back for 1 more year, didn't help us OR them.
Starts at the top. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tanny and Woody convinced Rex to keep Schottenheimer here as an OC. Rex Ryan wanted Hue Jackson hired if I remember correctly.
Hue Jackson was putting together a pretty good run offense in Oakland until the Raiders started being the Raiders again - making dumb-ass decisions. That offense with Jason Campbell looked pretty legitimate. He's the assistant coach of the Bengals now, they have a strong group of coordinators over there.
I'm not a Tony fan at all but let be real here? No OC can be here and make this offense much better. WE HAVE NO TALENT ON OFFENSE.
This is generally true, but I do find the O more confusing since Sparano came here. I don't totally blame him, however, since the most confusing thing has been how Tebow was supposed to fit, or not, in this O. Playcalling remains questionable, however. Personnel has been mostly the same as last year's, but the OL is a year older, especially Moore. Howard has replaced Hunter, so that's an upgrade, but not a huge one. Holmes being out has hurt, and Keller was hurt before, and now again. But some here do not think Holmes is a big factor (I do). Meanwhile for all the confusion Tebow has brought, that is not really a reflection of a downgrade in the roster. The changes on the roster are just big enough to make it a bit apples and oranges to compare to last year, but it is not a huge difference. The point here is that the O is materially worse than last year. Is that on Sparano or not? I think it's hard to say. But we can say that Sparano has not improved the O compared to last year.
People need to explain the Sparano hate. There have been so many plays and yards left on the field by Sanchez, Greene and Hill that he isn't even remotely close to the problem. Not even mentioning the constant turnovers which just kill everything and the lack of skill position players. You can mention the Tebow experiment but the guy is in a no win situation there. It would be fair to mention the New England game up there on two drives but other than that I think the guy has done more than a credible job calling plays. Sparano is far from the problem.
Someone needs to make a good pitch to Norv Turner, Maybe he could install the west coast offense or something. Atleast he has a good resume and would be night n day over Sparano who after being fired will probably never have a job in the NFL again. Just because someone worked under Parcells doesn't mean shit and Sparano has proved that every down of every game
