you guys are as emotional as most WOMEN!! I am not a Blaylock fan, but the man has one NFL start to his credit in a Jets uniform. What if next week he miraculously gains 150 yds? do you then say he will be in the pro bowl?
Barlow wasn't bad in his short stint, he'll start to get the bulk of the carris soon and hopefully the OL will get better at run blocking. This Ol is very young(especially after Kendall went down) and it's a work in progress.
Well, I'm a Jets fan of course I'm emotional. I've been saying it for a while now, Blaylock is not a starter (personally I was the one who said he should be cut but I guess he can be serviceable). Next week the torch is passed to Barlow who has the most upside of the not so stellar group, and we just pray he doesn't cough up the ball. Next year, there will be a new starter in place, can't fix these talent issues all in one year....
I cant see people defending this log of turd. A running back is supposed to be able to make that first cut and get some yardage, make the first defender miss, at least once in awhile. How much times did he just sit there doing the hammer dance, then falling as soon as someone looked at him. We give the ball to barlow he gets 3 yds, 8yds, 4 yds. ( you get what I mean) Yet we continue to give the ball to blaylock. Barlow has to start next week.
Get Barlow the start Vs. the Pats and spell im with Leon Washington because he is the ONLY RB that we have that has playmaking ability.
The failure off the Jets to run the ball was the failure of the o-line. I would not call for Blaylock's head because all of the backs were not effective carrying the ball. But the line is young and it is something that has to be worked on.
This is exactly why I started this thread. I knew people would be calling for Blaylock's head. It's hard to judge the guy behind this young line right now.
I wouldn't worry. As NYJUNC said, Barlow is going to start getting the bulk of the carries. I think Mangini wanted to ease him in, since he's still kind of learning things. If there are still issues then, we'll have some problems on our hands. You also have to wait for the rookies to fully adjust to the speed of the game. When that happens, we will have a much more accurate view of where we stand. Blaylock showed me that he is much more suited for a change of pace role. He seemed a bit too hesitant for me. I was not thrilled that Cedric Houston was inactive. I think we really could have benefitted from his tough downhill running style yesterday, and he might have been pumped to be back in Tennessee where he played his college ball. -X-
The reason Blaylock got the start..... Barlow still learning the offense Houston put the ball on the ground a few times this pre-season. Mangini probably viewed Blaylock as the most mistake free option. Barlow will get more carries each week until he eventually carries the bulk.
