IDC what stats you pull up, pull em all up if you want, he had to get one yard and he couldn't get it. The End. His comments just need to stop, hes a choker, he came up small in the playoffs in San Diego and he came up small in NY.
CJLang's right. What he said isn't offensive or a way to get back at us for any reason. It's actually a pretty funny story; blame the media for blowing this headline up, not LT.
I agree. When I read the headline I thought oh god what did LT say now. But in actuality it was a funny story and talked about one of the things I love most about Rex.
mods, can we change his name? you can't have the moniker WhySoSerious488 and actually take Rex's comment serious enough that you want to discuss it from the perspective of how it would have affected his career had he done it.
i think the press has a little locker full of rex/jets 'circus' stories. now that the jets aren't creating much new news, they just pull out old garbage. that said, this isn't even 'news'.
I thought it was a great story anyway, and if I heard right the Jets won the game he's talking about, so... sounds like it worked. Also, Tomlinson hates the Patriots (and Belichick) with a passion. I seriously doubt he'd deliver bulletin-board material on purpose, even at the urging of his new employers.
When I read this quote it was immediately followed up by LT explaining it was just a joke to get the team motivated. Of course that doesn't make it into the story because that wouldn't make the Jets look as bad. Don't hate LT for this, hate the way the media handled it. The deliberately left out a portion of the quote to make it sound more sensational than it really is. Edit: here is the rest of his quote: "He was motivating his guys and he wanted to jump it off," LT added. " ... Our coach showed confidence that he has in us (and) in himself. He can be joking and lighten the mood at the same time while being serious about the competition." But hardly anyone is talking about that portion, although I did find it on an NFL.com article.
it doesn't need to be stated because anyone that would take it as a serious statement is an imbecile.
Well sure, but just more from a headlines perspective it reads like this. RYAN SAID HE WAS GOING TO PUNCH BILL BELICHICK IN THE FACE!!!!!!!! jokingly And that's kind of annoying and irresponsible journalism. But, hey, what else is new?
LT needs to STFU already when it comes to Jets locker room talk. He is fully aware how heavily criticized this team is & he's also aware that the Jets organization is now trying to become less of a negative headline. Why can he just give quality analysis & see how far you can go with his of-the-field career. I can see now why San Diego players were happy to see him go.
Some of you guys sound like butt-hurt little bitches...... who cares? LaDanian was a great player, and I'm glad we got to see him play for the JETS
I think it's awesome. A great way to diffuse tension and create a light atmosphere. Even without LT's clarifying remarks, I find it hard to believe that anyone would consider that bulletin board material. Of course, I'm underestimating the NY media's stupidity when I say that.
Its not criticism of the Jets or even LT as an analyst. Its criticizing LT for bringing up "closed doors" talk that should be left in the locker room. After 2 years on the team and 1 AFC appearance, LT is sure to have something else he could have used instead punching Belli in the face - e.g. something less inflammatory that provides less fodder to the media. ^win /thread
Haha that's great. Sounds like Rex. Could you imagine being in a locker room and your coach (jokingly but still) saying he's going to set the tempo by punching the other coach in the face? Perfect.
My thoughts as well. He's been running his mouth the moment he left, both for ESPN and NFL network. It's too bad because it was great to see him play as a jet.
I doubt that a two or three year old second party quote would make the bulletin board in Foxborough. Especially one that seems to confirm Rex's status as an empty sweater.
