Jets are reallly trying to upgrade team, not just replace bodies. The signings of David Nelson & Zach Sudfeld appear to not just be replacement players, but upgrades to their respective positions. I'm really anxious to see how team looks by week 7 & 8, especially if Geno is still healthy. Nelson, if healthy can be a very good 3rd or 4th WR. Sudfeld, can potentially become the #1 TE. He has that kind of ability. Kudos to the Front Office. Keep up the good work. I have to give GM Idzik some credit here. Lets keep going in the right direction. If Jets were to acquire Kenny Britt to add to this Offensive cast, Jets would look so much more dynamic. Britt would probally love to come back to NYC area, for a low draft pick next year & a conditional in 2015....he's well worth the risk. Santanio won't be back next year, but you'll have him added to the group for this season & Jets Offense would be a real force & ready to roll !!! Jets Offense would look like : WR's: David Nelson Kenny Britt/Braylon Edwards Santonio Holmes Stephen Hill Jeremy Kerley Ryan Spadola TE's: Zack Sudfeld Jeff Cumberland Kellen Winslow RB's: Chris Ivory Bilal Powell Mike Goodson Alex Green A much improved & dynamic cast for Geno to play with. All this reaction, just from adding Kenny Britt. Jets still need a #1 break-away RB next season.
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Britt had a big knee injury last year or maybe two years ago and has not been the same. I'm not sure where I got that from, maybe I read it or heard it somewhere. Might just be wrong.
Sudfeld and Nelson were brought in because of injury. Sudfeld has done nothing in the NFL and lost his job to Matthew Mulligan. Nelson is a JAG. He was a free agent for a reason, although it wont take much for him to be an upgrade over Clyde Gates. Trading for Britt would be a Tannenbaum move. We arent mortgaging the future anymore. Build the core thru the draft.
Remember the Pats play 2 TE sets and it's under the belief that Sudfeld couldn't play the role left by Ahern (could be wrong about this)...so a TE under any other set may work for another team...we will see.
This. All of it. No one is going to argue that we need to address the receivers at the end of the year, but that's the time to do it. Through FA or draft, or more probably both. This is an evaluate and rebuild year, nothing more. A high turnover of players that are low risk, high reward moves and guys with some potential. Bring 'em in, chew 'em up and spit 'em out. If we find a handful of keepers that's great. Stockpile draft picks and sort the cap out.
It depends what you are trading to rent Britt for the year. If it is a late round pick, and the Jets are still contending then maybe. I am not too crazy about Britt though. I wouldnt mind a braylonesque trade for Gordon since he is young, talented and under contract.
The trade for Braylon (or Holmes) didnt mortgage the future. In fact they were probably better than anything the Jets would have gotten via the picks. It is easy to be critical of Tanny in retrospect but I think the WR trades were solid moves. I think Tanny really got killed by bad drafting, and holding players for too long more than losing so many picks via trade.
Braylon is not coming back. The obsession needs to die. He's had multiple chances to prove himself, but he's not the same guy. And I highly doubt Holmes is gone after the year.
It sort of did. We got 1.75 yrs of service from Braylon at ~$4m per. We probably wouldve gotten more yrs at a cheaper price using the pick, however, the immediate impact would have been nil. IIRC we gave a 2nd for Braylon, maybe a third. The trade for Holmes was good value imo because u dont find guys like Holmes in the 5th. Tannenbaum was quick to trade away picks. They werent all bad ideas, as I like Holmes and Cromartie, but we didnt get many yrs out of guys like Braylon and Jenkins and we couldve had long term contribution there. With where were at, we need to be using those picks and start hitting in them for a change.
JEEZus with effing Braylon already. Lolol. The man is not sitting at home because every GM is brain dead. There is another reason.
Look at that list. It's an encyclopedia of cast-offs and misfits. Wow. Sorry to be negative but... I mean... Hahaha.
http://www.tmz.com/2013/10/05/nfl-braylon-edwards-battery-report-allegedly-attack-photog-bar/ We'll see if it's true, but as FA not a good look. Seriously though, the Braylon dream needs to stop. We saw him, he's not Braylon of 2010. He has trouble getting separation these days and can't play ST for us. He'd be ok depth if Hill and Holmes are out for extended amount of time, but if he's on this team when everyone is healthy, Holmes, Hill, Kerley should be played ahead of him all the time.
Jim Rome on NFL today. " The patsies WR's look like arena league players" . Gee. Let's see They have Edelman and Amendola. Amendola is a younger version of welker and edelman does not drop anything. Yeah right jimmy . Take a look at our WR corps !!
