There were some bad calls yesterday but don't think the refs upset any league officials with their roughing the passer calls on Sunday. NFL does not want QBs hurt & whenever in doubt, the QB will ALWAYS get the call. Sucked for the Jets but the league has always been consistent with their don't hurt the QB policy.

I think bad calls tend to even out. But I also think the League should issue some statement about that call on Bush since they need to clarify it was NOT a bad illegal hit.

That's just it, they shouldn't be throwing the flag unless they clearly see it was low or a blow to the head, not the way it looks when the QB falls. The league is partly to blame by over protecting the QB and that needs to change. The integrity of the games is at stake.

Now that is a separate argument which I do agree with. Instead of bad refereeing, I think the league in general needs to consider some adjustments to their policy. Right now, if something is iffy or not seen clearly, we should all expect the flag & this goes beyond what ref is working that particular game.

player safety is the #1 issue in the league right now and they will always give the benefit of the doubt in regards to that. it was a bad call but I can see why it was called.

Everyone can say stop bitching and don't complain, but we constantly get screwed by the officials. It's not what's called it's when it's called, it's like they have a memo to stop Jets momentum whenever possible in critical situations

It's a front. They don't care so much about player safety as they do about the image, likability and profits of the NFL.

The image takes a hit with the PBS special on their hiding of concussions and whenever a player gets a major injury or a retired player makes news for his playing days injuries.

By throwing a flag for SOME illegal hits, they aren't really making anything safer for the players, all they are doing is gaining the positive image that they are doing so, but picking and choosing the ones that both benefit their image as well as the likability of the game.

An example is - why are we only really seeing penalties against defensive players in the name of safety??

-is it because only defensive plays are unsafe?
-is it because a 15 yard penalty on the defense is good for safety but also gives the offense a 1st down, and people who on are the fence about football, like offense?
(im thinking this is the case)

Two personal fouls put us in field goal position to win 2 games. This constant whining that we are being picked on is tiresome. Bad calls are being made all over the league against every team all the time.

Of course Brees gets more calls - He's earned the right to be over-protected, and there is no way in Hell the league is going to care that a call hurt the Jets' momentum. Do you think the league wants to see Luke McCown out there instead of Brees? Of course not, so they will support officials who are overly protective of their star talent. Same goes for Manning and Brady.

We won in spite of poor officiating. Quit whining and be thankful that the team played well enough to overcome it.

Do you honestly believe the last half of your last sentence? That kind of whining makes the rest of what you post here look ridiculous.

Funny, when I was younger, terrible calls would eat at me far too long. Now, like the 2nd Brees roughing call, I just move on instantly. Nothing you can do. It is over now. Hopefully the Jets players have the same mindset.

It actually looked to me like the low-hit RTP penalty on Brees had the Jets fired up afterwards. They were relentless after that.

Also, FOX did an excellent job of slow-mo camera work on Rex's profanity-laden screams at the refs after some of the calls haha

I love when they do that. Everyone freaks out when a profanity is heard, but you can show people mouthing f-bombs until the cows come home wth no reprocussions. Awesomeness.

The only way to fix bad calls in the NFL (which happen multiple times almost every game) is to allow coaches to challenge penalties. Obviously you can't let them challenge and say there should be a penalty (cuz they'd do it every play and claim holding), but if you can challenge other errors, why not penalty flags as well? Isn't the point of replay to preserve the integrity of the game and get the calls right? It's kind of silly to be at the mercy of a judgement call that the guy sees only once in fast motion. They should allow them to be challenged because it's tough to make calls like that at full speed with people all over the place.

Yeah...the league would never put it in writing.

It's more of a "wink wink" kinda thing.
