Other would probably be my option, I'm not really sure what I want there. If we are going defensive coach, why let Rex go? If we go offensive coach, will they want to flip the defense around and we lose some young players? If I had to choose from one of them, Jon Gruden but that's just because I hear him on TV every MNF and know more of him than anyone else
For those who answered this poll: If your wife/gf ever says something like this: "I know you would never cheat on me, but if you had the chance to sleep with someone else, who would it be?" DONT ANSWER IT!!!
because college coaches never leave their current schools because they have contracts. do you even follow college football?
that's a silly criteria. players he recruits would just be an indication of how well he could recruit, not necessarily how well he can coach. the question isn't whether he would be a good GM it is would you want him as a coach...based on his coaching ability.
Jay Gruden should be on the list instead of Jon. Jon is not leaving the booth to coach this mess and he himself has said Jay is the better football mind.
Rex is not a well rounded coach. He is a genius with the defense but a total failure with the O. I believe this is why he is failing. The best thing Idzik can do is remove Rex from the draft room and process. We have the coaching staff in place we just need some talent. Pull the anti Parcells and do the grocery shopping and he can make the meal.
Darell Bevell should be the first name on Idzik's list if Rex gets canned. Idzik has the Seattle connection with Bevell and Bevell has made Russell Wilson into one of the best QB's in the league. That Seattle offense has very little talent besides Lynch and Wilson, but he has made them into a very good unit. His offense can really run the ball, and he has proven that he can develop whichever QB is running the offense next year. Jon Gruden is a very intriguing name, but I don't know if he is a good fit. It doesn't seem like the type of decision that Idzik would make, seems more like a Tanny decision. Idzik doesn't like the big splash moves, and that is exactly what hiring Jon Gruden would be. Regardless, Jon Gruden is a great coaching mind. Tremendous work ethic and very knowledgeable. He can really coach offense as well. If the Jets were to go with a defensive guy, Zimmer is a name that I would really like to see considered. His unit is one of the best in the league. He has been great with Cincinnati. I doubt the Jets would go with a defensive guy though. The totally off the radar coach that I think should be considered is David Cutcliffe of Duke. He has done a great job with a team lacking talent. He can really coach offense, especially the QB position. Peyton and Eli can vouch for him. He developed them in college. He turned Thaddeus Lewis into a good QB who is now succeeding in the NFL after he was a no name recruit. He turned Sean Renfree into one of the sleepers of the 2013 QB draft class after he was a nothing recruit. He has also coached QB's such as Erik Ainge and Heath Shuler who have played in the NFL. He can clearly develop QB's, maybe better than any coach in football. It would be an off the radar hire, but Cutcliffe seems to be the polar opposite of Rex both in personality and in expertise. That might be the direction that Idzik wants to go in.
Rex had taken this shit offense to a 5-4 record .Does anyone even realize how hard that is to do without a real franchise QB?Yea the last 3 weeks have sucked but theres 4 games left and still time to turn it around.Look at the Bears they had one of the best defenses in league last season Lovie gets fired and now there defense is a complete joke one of the worst in the NFL under Tressman. Its not easy to have a perfectly balanced team but i feel like we are getting close. We should be legit next season if we keep Rex N Marty and add the right talent on offense. No one on that list sparks excitment in me whatsoever. We couldnt even get the top GM candidates to take the job ,You honestly think top head coach candidates will wanna come here? With the possibility of teams stacked with talent like Houstan,Tampa,Washington may be looking for head coaches? We wont get a top tier coach,We would get some unproven college coach whos never been in the NFL before.
Mike Tomlin. He's practically the only coach in the NFL I'd take over Rex other than Sean Payton who's not going anywhere. He's getting bad publicity now, who knows, the Steelers might let him go at the end of the season to save face. If that happens we should try and hop on that, but I just wish we could keep Rex at DC, but I very much doubt that would happen if a new HC comes in.
