I remember when Cousins was drafted, Skip Bayless said that Kirk was drafted because that's who Shanahan really wanted. Skip said RG3 was not the QB of choice for Shanahan, etc. When Bayless presented this conspiracy he got laughed at but I bought into it immediately. It made to much sense. Why would you trade up three 1st round draft picks and a 2nd round pick and not build around him? A 4th round pick is valuable and to draft a QB after trading up to get one did not make sense entirely. Now the truth is out that Shanahan never was on board with drafting RG3 and wanted to take Tannenhill or Cousins and use the other picks to build around them. The Redskins had the 6th pick in the draft and would have been able to get Tannenhill without giving up anything. Now the 2014 pick for the Redskins is in the hands of the St Louis Rams which as of today is the #2 pick in the draft. Its still hard to judge the trade but it looks like a mess right now for Washington, especially if St. Louis drafts a QB that ends up being successful or they get ahold of Clowney.

Cousins wasn't a bad pick. If you're taking a QB you're planning to run a lot you have to have a good backup available. Look at what's happened with RGIII on that front over the last two years.
