Imagine Revis having a pass rush to support him, that is what Seattle has. Great DBs w/ great pass rush. Their D is much better than ours ever was in 2009 or 2010.
You can make the argument that Seattle was looking to become the Jets West after 2009. They went out and got a player friendly, defensive minded coach. Then they got to work on building that D. The offense is still being built. Where they exceeded the Jets, was the ability to draft very well, and find that gem of a QB. Whether we catch back up to Seattle depends on a lot on how well Geno grows in the NFL. I've always felt Seattle was building similar to us, and doing it more efficiently. It felt like a natural fit to bring Idzik in. Always wondered why these talking schmucks would all insist Rex was being forced on Idzik. Guess it took them over a year to gain some clarity.
you didn't take any bait, we are having a discussion. don't let some of our worst posters drag you down. If you are realizing you don't have any ammo in this debate then move on but don't weasel out like this.
If the Jets can mega hit on some late round picks in the next couple years they'll be right up there in wins as well. If the Jets can get two top flight/elite players with late round picks, they'll be in great shape.
Except, you could depend on Wilson to make plays when it mattered the most. Jets aren't Seattle East - never was, they got a franchise QB, and created tons of depth.
exactly like mark who made a ton of big plays in postseason in 2009/2010. The difference is while mark could move he wasn't scrambling for big yardage where Wilson will do that.
We are on the right track in terms of depth, and we have no idea what we have in Geno.... To sit here after 1 season and determine already that he is not the future of this team, is asinine. Give the guy a chance, he was a rookie for Christ sake.
How am I weaseling out? I pointed out that the Jets weren't getting the league average at QB in 2009 and only slightly above it in 2010. Your response was to warp my reasoning by bringing up the postseason. That wasn't the argument. Playing well in a 3 game stretch (or 2 out of 3 in this case) isn't what I was saying. The point was that if the Jets had been getting above average QB play for the entire season, then maybe they wouldn't have had to go on the road for the playoffs (unlikely, but maybe). My argument is not against Sanchez and how he performed in the playoffs, and that's where you are steering the conversation. My original argument is that the Seahawks didn't start winning until they got a good QB.
don't agree w/ someone about "taking the bait". Be better than that, if you disagree just give me your reasons then counter what I say in response. In 2009 mark had 3-4 terrible games which skewed his #s but he was good most of the year. In 2010 he was top 10ish so yeah he was well above average. mark cost us very few games, the D cost us more. Seattle was ready to make a jump in 2012 as long as they got decent QB play. I like Wilson a lot, he's not a huge #s guy but he makes plays to win but he has more help than Mark ever had.
Wilson also has a stronger arm, a better command of the offense, and 100x more mature. Wilson this year threw 22 TDs, he played well for the Seahawks all year. Can't say the same about Mark his first 2 years, though he stepped it up in the playoffs. Now, we are on the right track I agree. I think we are around the same spot when Seattle went 7-9. That next draft was HUGE for the Seahawks. Wilson showed so much more his rookie year, I want to give Geno a chance so let's hope it works out. I think he has a lot going against him, but I hope he comes out smelling like roses in the end.
Mark played well throughout 2010, had a few bad games as Wilson did. mark has never had a D like Seattle's and never had a RB like Lynch either.
Mark didn't have a RB like Lynch, but he had a decent pair in LT, Greene and to an extent Brad Smith. That Patriot (pt 2) - Dolphin (pt 2) stretch was pretty bad. Don't think Wilson had as bad as a stretch as that all season
Off topic, but as i watch ESPN i'm being bombarded with Russell Wilson interviews. Is it just me or does he seem like a major douche? It's like he's trying to be Mr. perfect not only with the media, but with his teammates too. He was probably that kid in high school that told the teacher she forgot to collect the homework at the end of class. Shit is a annoying.
Ari and SF were pretty bad, maybe not as bad but Wilson had some poor moments this year. LT had a great first month, he was pretty bad the rest of the year. Greene was ok, neither close to Lynch.
Your first point is just flat out wrong. He wasn't "good" for most of the year. He was one of the worst QBs in the league that year, but a rookie so he doesn't get killed for it. It's hard to say top 10ish for 2010...more like top 15. But I agree with you about '10. That year hurts the most because that was a team that could have realistically won the Super Bowl. That team was similar to what the Niners did last year and what the Seahawks are doing this year. I just think that Wilson and Kaepernick are a bit better than what Sanchez was in 2010.
he was good enough for most of the year. He had 15 of his 20 INts in 4 games. For the majority of the year he was good.
The fate of Jets will depend heavily on the development of QB - that's for sure. This is more or less because of the offense they are running; WCO, as Bill Walsh conjured it, is an offense where you manage the risk first, then go for the kill at the most opportune time. That's the old days of WCO during the 80's and 90's. These days - that is, in today's NFL - WCO is an offense that will try to throw a knock-out punch at any distance and down. The system and terminology is in form of WCO for sure, but the mentality is closer to the other WCO - Coryell offense. I am getting slightly worried over this issue - I hope I am wrong about this, but that was the impression I got when I was watching MM's version of WCO. [Oh boy... where have you gone, Chad, when we need you the most? With this defense, Chad before the injury would have been a God-send.]
Not a chance they were "better all around." They had better receivers and that's where it ends. Our offensive line was vastly superior. Our secondary was vastly superior. The defensive lines were similar. They get the linebacker edge. QB's, Kaep was better in the regular season, Sanchez was better in the playoffs. Thomas Jones was a hell of a lot better than Frank Gore.
Thomas Jones better than Frank Gore:rofl2: we had one edge, secondary and that was mostly b/c of revis. other than they were pretty much better across the board.
