What were your expectations going into this offseason? Did you see the Jets as a team that was only a few moves away from competing for the AFC Championship? I sure didn't. I think the answer to that question goes a long way towards whether you like Idzik's approach or not.
The same guy who keeps saying Rex is so mad and Idzik is missing out is the same asshat who made headlines talking about how forcing Idzik to keep Rex for a season was such a bad move and the Jets were going to be so bad and before that the constant Tebow crap and before that circus/Holmes pieces... Don't you see this is all writers trying to make offseason stories? They're mad the Jets didn't give them big FA stories to write so they are trashing them again. Big surprise.
Good question. I don't think there a player away, I think this entire season will hinge on genos development. I think surrounding rex with rookies again, and any players idzik can sign for a vet minimum is shitty, when there once again holding his job over his head. I just don't like the guy and think he could have done a better job to this point. He's a first time gm and everyone on this board seems to be putting allot of blind faith in him.
We are putting all this faith into him because Seattle just won a Super Bowl and we somehow want very badly to believe that he had a intricate role in that.
He wasn't the gm there. He's never been a gm. He's a cap guy. Seatless gm(not idzik) got very lucky finding so many quality late round payers. It doesn't happen often. Idzik hasn't demonstrated any history of doing this.
Assuming he can't be a good GM becayse he hasn't been a good GM is about as pointless as saying 4 year old Brett Favre shouldn't play football because he has never thrown a ball. Everyone has to start somewhere, with a few years of sustained success, you'll be glad it was here. The last 5 of 6 superbowl winning teams made it there almost exclusively on the back of their drafted players (Seahawks, Ravens, Giants, Packers Saints, Steelers) and the Saints got there on the arm of Drew Brees. The other key here is that all of these teams are perennial playoff/SB contenders. The Jets felt like they were close and shot their wad on FAs and trades and got close again, but only for 1 year. The Packers could win a SB any given year with their drafted talent. The Seahawks could win a SB any given year. The Steelers could win a SB any given year. All with primarily drafted talent. No, not every team gets as lucky as Seattle, but even if it takes a few years, drafted talent is better and lasts longer.
Although he wasn't the personnel Assistant GM, he was active in player evaluations at Seattle, according to the Seahawks. http://www.seahawks.com/team/staff/John-Idzik/f304b1c8-4fdb-49a7-b810-c4b074b07c45
Based on his steadfast approach and the way he has handled the Jets' business. He got us out of cap hell in one season, created competition, dealt Revis for a first round pick successfully, and drafted well. We supposedly had the worst roster in the league, which Idzik and Rex were "hamstrung" by but improved upon the 2012 season. No he hasn't done anything "great" but he has done lots of good things and nothing bad. Therefore logic dictates he is a good GM, not bad, and not great. Time may show us he actually is great, or actually is bad, or really truly is just good. Regardless, the facts show good, not incompetent.
He was clearly there admin guy. It lists his responsibilities. And says, while also remaining active in player evaluations. ..that's like a filler on a resume. I understand and know he understands football. I'm just not comfortable with how he's going about things to this point. That's all.
the person I quoted said "All I know is I rather spend all our money at once and take a shot at the Lombardi trophy even if its only a two year run,I don't care how we get there I just want us to get there" - I just wanted to know who these elite players were that were available for us to sign and were going to turn us into a title contender - I would love to know as I didn't really spot any (aside from Revis who would have been a terrible signing).
That's because you're a casual fan who likes splashy free agent signings and you don't understand the intricacies of the GM position and how sustainability is created.
