I didn't think he was gonna make it back and I was dead wrong. His return changes the Jets 5 year plan. He can be the Franchise QB and the Jets can think Super Bowl in 2007. His arm strength appears to have improved to at worst average by NFL standards. If he can stay healty, the Jets can stay in every game. He may be the smartest QB in the game. If someone steps up in the running game soon, we have a real shot at the playoffs this year. This league is terribly mediocre if you didn't notice.
Good observation.. I totally agree, but I dont want to jump the gun. I am going to wait, and see this steady improvement that the team as a whole keeps showing. We have things that seem to be fixed, but I dont think it would take more than one offseason to fix these areas. I hope we get a lot, or all of our major needs this upcoming offseason. I am expecting to go to the playoffs this year, I still think it is do-able. We had a tough loss today, but I have never seen CP play so smart, and that confident in awhile today. It was exciting.
Expecting a rebuilding team to make the playoffs isn't very fair, but at this point, it isn't exactly out of the question either. I still think our expectations should be low, since the Jets are playing with (a) almost completely new coaching staff w/ a rookie HC, no less, (b) absolutely horrid running game, and (c) just as horrid defense. If the Jets make the playoffs, I'll be pleasantly surprised. If they don't, I'll be content so long as they showed improvement week to week.
We were terrible last year, and it was mainly out of our hands, and I still expected the playoffs. I cant expect for anything less, I like this team too much to set my standards low. I have faith no matter what situation we are in. It does'nt help you feel better having low expectations throughout the year, all it does is make you bitter. Not worth it in my eyes.
No he is not. He is playing like he plays when he is healthy. We all forgot how good of a QB he was before he got injured.
You're correct. From Wikipedia: James Chadwick Pennington (born June 26, 1976 in Knoxville, Tennessee) is an American football quarterback for the NFL's New York Jets. Pennington was a Rhodes Scholar finalist as he held a GPA of 3.75 majoring in Broadcast journalism.
just like how you can't plan for him getting hurt, you can go ahead and make plans for him when he is healthy!
Has anyone else noticed aside from myself that Chad has taken several hard hits and is bouncing right back from them? He's been hit hard in the shoulder which I'm sure is what everyone is concerned about in the preseason. He's not flinching making his passes and taking the hit like a trooper...bouncing back up and ready for the next play no matter what the outcome was. He even took a shot in the knees from the New England game and landed awkwardly...which by the way eventually went in to the end zone. CP is back ladies and gentleman, conditioned better than ever and is going to keep us in every game that we play winning many of them. F all the haters!
I have been a huge critic of Pennington and that's when he was healthy. The fact is now that he is in charge of the O and has options, he is proving that he is a top flight NFL QB. This puts enormous pressure on the front office to go out and fix this team in a hurry. With a Franchise QB allready here, it speeds up the entire process including the sense of urgency by the Owner, GM and coaching staff to surround him with enough talent to go the distance. I expect a very big move in FA next year prior to the draft.
Exactly. When he is healthy he has always been a good QB. I think our O-line is getting better each week, but with jax coming up,it will be tested.
Yes, I can see this, too.I still think we are 4 or 5 players away from being a real force in the league, but I am not complaining about what has taken place thus far. Unexpected. It is nice to at least be able to sit down and root for your team knowing that they have a chance in every game, especially after last season.
