Hey Guys (& Gals) Found this pretty cool clip on various NFL hits... just for shits and giggles http://grouper.com/video/MediaDetails.aspx?id=456082
One of my top 10 favorite plays of all time is in that video. I'm talking about the play in 1978 where rookie Earl Campbell rammed Rams linebacker Isiah Robertson in the chest. As that play continued, Campbell dragged a few defenders as his jersey was being ripped to shreds. Tearaway jerseys were outlawed the following season, I believe. Those Dick Lane hits, especially the clothesline, were really brutal. Jaworski got pounded twice in that video. He got smacked around quite a few times especially in 1983-86. I saw there was a Joel Williams hit. That player made the greatest play by a defender I have ever seen. I'll write about it someday when someone (maybe me) creates a thread about the best plays of all time.
Its out of control..and maybe its me..but these helmet to helmet hits have to be on the rise. Its just a matter of time. Someone is going to be injured..badly. It seems like every game I watch..there are two or three horrible helmet to helmet hits. This has been the worst year I ever seen for that stuff...I would have to think that these personal fouls are way up this year..dont have the stats..maybe someone can find that stuff.
Your right, there are many players who are just headhunters and use the helmet as a weapon. I love seeing someone get jacked up but when someone goes head on head or flips someone on the top of their head it looks bad.
