The trade up is looking more and more irrelevant. This guy is going to be torching us for a decade. It's like fucking Andre Reed all over again. _
I'm a Jet fan and don't particularly care about the Bills one way or the other but I think, as a Bills fan, you can safetly put in the past what was done--what was given up in the trade--and just be thankful that you got a tremendous player full stop. _
With the way the season is going so far it might only be a 17 or higher pick we give the Browns so I am content. Meanwhile I think throwing to him is the formula to winning! In our 5 wins he has 30 catches for 515 yards 4 TD'S In our 3 losses 8 catches (18 targets) 76 yards 1 TD
Can't believe some Bills fans still defend this trade. Was clearly a terrible trade at the time and two seasons later it looks even worse. Sure, Watkins was widely regarded as the top WR in the draft, but in the deepest WR class in perhaps ever, the difference between him and the next guys on the board (Evans, OBJ) was NOT worth a first (and another 4th?) rounder. Watkins is a great receiver and has been doing well lately, but with two seasons of evidence, OBJ (despite being a huge douche) is on another level. Allen Robinson may be as well. Evans has been statistically more prolific. Hell, he hasn't even shown to be necessarily better than his Clemson teammate Bryant. If given the choice between having Watkins or any of the following receivers plus a first and a fourth rounder, would any reasonable GM pick Watkins? OBJ Allen Robinson Mike Evans Jarvis Landry Jordan Matthews Kelvin Benjamin Martavis Bryant Brandin Cooks
Well, Brandon Cooks has been very underwhelming in his career so far, and that's playing with Brees and in that Saints offense. Not very encouraging. Isn't Jordan Matthews having a sophomore slump? That being said, besides Cooks and maybe Matthews, everyone else I would take over Watkins and keep the 1st and 4th round picks for sure. Jets had 12 picks and still failed to pickup a quality WR...lol
Cooks has actually quietly had a really good season - 1,100+ yards receiving and 9 TDs. Yes, he plays with Brees but that's still damn good production and he's become their primary weapon. Matthews hasn't been great but still has more catches and yards than Watkins. Yes, Watkins has missed a few games due to injury but he's been battling injuries both years now and it's become somewhat of a concern whether he can remain consistently healthy. Again, not saying either of these guys are better than Watkins straight up, but if you throw in a 1st and 4th round pick? No question who I'd take.
