If Chad Pennington doesn't take the pay cut, where are the Jets now?

This guy needs alot more credit than he is getting.

If Pennington refused to go from $9 million to $1 million he would of been cut.

Who would of replaced him? Where would the offense be right now?

More importantly (and ironic), the $64 million dollar man is clearly being under paid.

I think without Chad playing like he has and leading the offense, the Jets would be 0-6.

I can't see how anyone could argue with this.

He has to be considered for comeback player of the year and MVP so far.

He is atleast MVP of this team. Without him, I doubt the Jets win a game.

If he goes down anytime soon, the team will go down too.

Imagine if Clemens or Ramsey got the job?

    Good Lord!!

Just giving Chad some well deserved respect.

He is making Mangini look good, and occasionally Coles makes Chad look good.

I think it all comes out in the wash. He was certainly overpaid rehabbing 3 major injuries. Now he's playing for peanuts. Funny how it all works out sometimes.

Maybe, but he worked his ass off to get back. He gave all that he could in rehabbing. Lets not forget his towel waving.

    :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

After 6 weeks of football, with a 3-3 record, with a history of getting not making it through a full season and he's Underpaid?!?

The Jets would still be in rebuilding mode Chad or no Chad. 3-3 or 0-6? Perhaps somewhere in between with this schedule. As long as the overall Talent on this team remains at the level it is today, which is the better option? Playing for today or rebuilding for tomorrow? Chad for today or Clemmens for tomorrow?

How can you say he is not being underpaid at the moment?

Not just that the Jets are 3-3, but played close against Indianapolis and New England.

Without him, I believe the Jets are the 2005 Jets or worse right now.

I don't think the Jets win in Tennessee or Buffalo without Chad.

    Probably not yesterday either.

It's not even his performance that I am talking about. I agree he has done well and should recieve good money for his performance, but the guy has been injury prone, and you can't just hand out $9 million dollars with a good chance he can be injured.

Prove to the Jets FO that he can play 16 games, and then talk.

There's alot of variables to take into account. Who would be QB'ing the Jets? Ramsey or Clemmens. What kind of game plans would Schotts come up with? Uber conservative, creative or in between? Too many variables to say the Jets lose every game without Chad behind center.

We barely won yesterday WITH Chad. We got our asses kicked last week WITH Chad. Its not like we never lose WITH Chad. We got the easiest schedule perhaps in NFL history so every win should be taken with the perverbial grain of salt. Maybe Clemmens isn't as good as Leinart. We'll never know since Clemmens won't see any significant playing time until his next contract.

Unfortunately, we still have this little matter of rebuilding to attend to...

Oh okay, I see what you are saying. Yeah I agree with that.

The Jets did the right thing with his contract, not saying that was a mistake.

His contract is incentive based, he can get back most of the money they took away based on his play this year.

Comeback player of the year- maybe the leading candidate as of today's date
league MVP- no way, unless the Jets go 12-4

I titled the thread wrong talking about Chad's pay cut.

The thread wasn't really about his contract or pay cut.

It was about how the team would be without him and how important he is to the offense.

Cman i don't wanna jump the gun here, but it seems as if you're thinking that chad could really hurt the future of our team by sticking around too long. If thats so, then i agree 100%, this scares the crap out of me. Personally i think chad is a very good game manager at QB, but he's not a franchise QB that you need nowadays to win a superbowl. He's just not that good. He has the brain just not the talent. So i hope even if we do go 7-9 or 8-8, i think clemens deserves a shot next year.

I think that some of you are being a bit too protective of Chad. Yes, he's played well, but a lot of you are saying that without Chad we wouldn't win a game, or would be horrible, etc.

Without a good quarterback, we'd be horrible. You're giving him too much credit. Yes he's played well, but he's also played horrible before too.
