We did lose a lot of games b/c of our secondary, but Rex had them finishing 14th in pass defense last season. Which is amazing considering the guys Idzic cut, they starters that were injured, and the guys off the street he was forced to train/play on the fly. Finishing 14th is pretty good for any team, let alone a team of miss-fits we had.

Sure, so is this about Rex or the players? If it's about Rex that's a whole other convo. If it's a player as you said they were "misfits" so that's not a win.

The Jets secondary was garbage last year. Why would a team with a decent secondary take one of our worst corners from last years?

Actually better question, why should we be concerned if the Bills sign Walls lol?

Exactly... Sometimes we think players are better than they are bc they are on our team.

If anyone signs Darrin Walls they'll get a decent depth player but he's nothing special. No different than us signing a player that is cut by a different team for the same reason.

We had the worst DB group in the NFL last year. Suddenly the Jets have too much depth? In what world? All I see are a bunch of injury prone unproven commodities. Marcus Williams is the only guy on the backend of the CB group that is worth being excited about at this point in time.

True. How many people are going to lose sleep before we play Buffalo if we cut Walls and they sign him? That's right, none. He is what he is, a 4th or 5th best CB on someone's roster.

Because these guys weren't bad. And compared to other teams like the Jets who had injuries played ok. Idzik cut Cro after a bad season and whiffed on DRC and Vontae Davis the two best FA corners only because they chose other teams. If they loved Rex so much they would have signed here. Davis the best of the lot was the guy Idzik went after the hardest and the Jets thought they had him until his team the Colts made a counteroffer he accepted. Let's face it. Other teams with secondary injuries signed backups but covered their deficiencies much better than Rex did. And look at the other players he had on defense. He had quality personnel and Walls and Williams were adequate. They would be snapped up fast if waived. But not by Rex probably by Idzik.

Very little of this post addresses anything I mentioned. I could care less who the Jets whiffed on in Free Agency. That isnt the point of this thread.

The Jets had a below average secondary last year. Walls was a below average player on a below average secondary. Got burned a lot and wasnt very good at turning his head. Williams I liked, I think he has potential, which is why he wasnt mentioned in my post. I think Williams will be competing with Milliner and McDougle for the number 4 corner.

Most starters that get cut end up getting signed elsewhere. So I'll ask again, if Darrin Walls gets picked up by the Bills, why should we even be concerned? He probably wouldnt even play.

Compared to secondary replacements for injured starters, and there was a rash of injuries at Db positions last season the Jets corners like Williams and Walls were ok and better than most teams. If Walls does sign somewhere else it'll be no big loss. But he's not a bad player, he's NFL. Plus he has more experience than he had a year ago. I'd like to keep him. I don't think if cut he'd fall to the Bills. And maybe Mac could trade him. But I think he has more value to the Jets than a conditional higher round draft pick.

I don't agree at all. I actually think he serves NO value to the Jets at this point. What we need from that final CB spot is someone with the highest upside. Having someone like walls there to me eats up roster space. I want a guy there given our CB situation that we can develop in the hope of becoming an impact player one day.

Walls is fine, but his ceiling is totally capped and we don't need him, nor will anyone trade any sort of draft pick for him.

With our DL you would have thought last year that overall even with a beat up secondary our defense would have played better. I won't exonerate Rex and Thurmond on that. They had plenty of talent to be more successful. Rex via his leaks played the blame game on Idzik for not signing a good FA corner. They did sign Patterson but the guy was a moron. Plus Rex and the coaching staff was unable to handle him. I would have thought they could figure something out with the guy since they were short on experienced corners. They could have used him. Walls can make the team.

Actually when your head coach has his wife posing on the internet in a seedy foot fetish video, it's pretty unprecedented.

who have they picked up? John Connor who will likely not even make the team?

there is no one from the defense.

guys like Walls, Miles, TJ Barnes, and Babin.........should they be released, might draw minor interest.
they know the defense, but even still, would be at the end of the Buff roster for depth purposes only.
it wouldn't be much of a Win..

True, not saying its a win at all. Rex would probably want to show up AFC East teams that through his miracle coaching they become HOFamers...if he takes anyone.

I disagree. He didn't do am amazing job in any aspect of coaching. His team was 4-12. Most of us going into 2014 and coming off of an 8-8 thought we would be better than that. His schemes were predictable. He had a lot to work with on defense even though his secondary was below average. But his fans still want to give him credit for doing a bad job.
