We do NOT have a good front seven. We have above average front four (Mo, Shel, Big Cat, Snacks). They are not meant to be pass rushers but can push the Oline (which they failed today). Our LB's are below average (Coples, Pace, Davis, Reilly, Rookies....Harris is the only decent LB, but he can't cover for shit). I'm sick of hearing SNY, ESPN or whatever news outlet talk about our good front seven. It's a fucking myth and media bullshit. QB aside, we've been desparate for a pass rushing LB since that nancy JAbe pussied out of a playoff game. /rant
The D-line is the best run-stopping and gap-filling line in the league. The problem is, this is a passing league. We keep running this damn 3-4 defense and not a single coach we've had has a clue how the fuck a 3-4 runs. Here's the brief description: The big linemen close running lanes and take up blockers so that the linebackers can either get to the QB or pursue the RB. Unfortunately, our 3-4 linemen are used like 4-3 linemen, only they're bigger and slower. You can't generate a pass rush on the backs of guys who are 300+ lbs. You need quick edge rushers. Other than the failed Vernon Gholston draft pick, they haven't even ATTEMPTED to pick up a pass rushing OLB. Mangini, Rex, and now Bowles seem to be convinced that it's about 1985 and you need to stop the running back to win the game.
I think you've hit on some real issues. We really need some different LBs to pull of the 3-4. The shame of it is that we have so much DL talent that, in theory, we'd be better putting four guys on the line. The problem is that I'm not sure if they are all suited to switching to 4-3 techniques. However, during this offseason I want the FO to make a plan to keep any DL talent suited for 4-3 and trade the guys not suited to that system. With luck we trade a good DLman for a good OLB and can reduce the number of LBs we carry (and starting spots we need to fill).
My first instinct would be to say that they're too big and slow in both the linebacking corps and the D-line to run a 4-3. However, I think that if they moved Coples and Pace to become down linemen, rotate Snacks, Shel, Mo, and Williams at the tackle position, put Harris as the MLB, Mauldin and Davis as the OLBs, they may actually do a little better. At least better this year; then, next year, they should go and get a pass rusher.
91 looks as fat and slow as Pouha what a joke. At One point during the game had a mental flashback/ break down and actually started calling him Sione. Richardson is fat and slow, 1 year wonder. Start using him at fullback again, only this he is good for.Our front 4 is pathetic, thank god Williams will be the only man returning next year and he needs tons of improvement. He is flat out awful as well.
Wilkerson was great. Sheldon did well when he was in the game. Williams and Harrison were nonexistent. Why Harrison plays 90% * of snaps is beyond me.
I was thinking to myself last night that a trade of MO for a pash rushing OLB would probably be a great trade. Couldn't think of who and know it's not going to happen though. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
This part of the Team needs major revision. Good points made here. The past two games we have torchd through the air (in the latest we allso were run on terribly Does Bowles and our DC see this too?? Its stomach upsetting . there were time I couldnt look at the screen. Gotta be one of the worst games
This is something I've noticed for a while now, the fans and media interchange the words "front 4" and "front 7" on a whim, as if they know anything about the other 3 players. I don't think they realize that a good line doesn't necessarily imply a good front.
We HAVE a legit OLB in Mauldin. But Bowles prefers to play this old fuck Pace instead. And another guy in Coples who has no business playing LB in the first place. Outside of Sheldon & Harris this front 7 was absolute garbage yesterday. Even Mo who made a couple good plays and brought some heat was out of position at times, more worried about making plays in the backfield instead of being stout and setting the edge against the run.
Bowles needs to roll with Mauldin and Reilly going forward instead of Pace and Coples. BTW where was Snacks yesterday? He has seriously regressed going to the 1 gap scheme.
Idk what you guys are talking about lol.. our d-line creates a lot of pressure and is one of the elite lines in the NFL. Todd Bowles just switches us so much week to week it's hard to know what to expect. I felt like yesterday we did shitty zone blitzes with out corners playing the deep ball all game. So what did carr do? switched his game up and killed us with short quick routes that led to a lot of YAC. And let's give oakland some credit... their o-line was FANTASTIC yesterday. I've never seen our line get held like that so consistantly it was crazy. So major props there to them. (Yes people, it is possible for us to lose match-ups without saying our units sucks )
lb is an issue. harris is meh coples needs to be gone 3 years ago davis is TERRIBLE pace shouldnt see the field. its a mess at that level of the defense. absolute mess.
Uhh. I'll bite. What exactly do you think I'm "kidding" about? Can you elaborate a little more so we can avoid the minutiae of guessing. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
The front 4 part is a little silly. I agree that we don't have a "great front 7" but calling the front 4 "above average" is nuts. They're elite.
