Chip dismisses the Penguin. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...e-dc-eric-mangini-offer-curtis-modkins-oc-job
People call him a rat, but he blew, the lid off his mentor and his sham of a coaching history He won't be the last to sing like a canary to melt that cheats iceberg
Interesting time as Jets Head Coach. 2006 he took a team with an average at best roster to (10-6) and the playoffs. 2007 tried to go from Pennington to Clemens but it just did not work and the team finished (4-12). I felt that team was better than a 4 win team. 2008 was the year of Favre. (8-3) start then a complete collapse to (9-7). Sure looks good compared to the last 4 seasons of Rex Ryan though.
Shouldn't have chosen the Browns after getting canned here. I think if he went somewhere else he could still be a head coach in the league or atleast be considered more for another shot. Especially with all the garbage that gets promoted or recycled into HC gigs these days.
Mangini definetly over achieved when he was here in 2006. A good draft combined with a healthy Pennington and you had a solid playoff roster. He showed his true coaching ability when he took a shit in 2007 and then couldn't deal with the adversity of having an injured Brett favre. It seems 9er fans think mangini did pretty good with what he had.
How ironic...a guy who just got fired for being an asshole fires a guy who was fired twice for being an asshole.
...and in a related story, Mike Pettine has (er, had) a job with the Browns. Hard to believe, but true! (that's what I thought this thread was about until I read the title more closely)
Such an odd year. That Pats blowout just set the tone for the season and spygate having the exact opposite effect of what I expected didn't help. I think we played on Thanksgiving that year too and it's pretty much when I checked out for the season.
