I can't comment on them because I don't really know much about the prospects you listed. From what I've read there are a bunch of quality interior lineman that can be had in the later rounds. On the surface it's a weak offensive lineman draft at the top in terms of players that are highly regarded because there's no one else available, but when you look towards the bottom ends of the draft there seems to be some promising prospects. It's not unheard of for a 4th round offensive lineman to start.
True, and that's why I think Mac's philosophy can and will work, but usually that's more with the interior OL, not OTs. It's much rarer to find those guys in lower rounds, but it can happen.
I think Wilkerson is gone. Unless he's willing to sign a cheap deal with the Jets (and to date there has been no evidence of that), I can't see how they pay Mo $15 million plus a year while they have Richardson and Williams. They had Richardson playing LB because otherwise they couldn't have them all on the field at the same time otherwise. I think Mo is gone. My guess is that the Jets wait will designate him as a non-exclusive franchise player and hope someone wants to give them two first round picks for him. If nothing happens within a week or two of the draft then they'll trade him for whatever they can get.
Can't imagine anyone meeting his asking price and giving up 1 first round draft choice, let alone two. I think Macc would do well to get a two for him but more likely a three. Its a lot of cap space to allocate to a very good but not dominating defense lineman. He's not Watt and not Donald. He's not even Suh and my guess is that Miami regrets that contract big time (Thanks Mr. T). He'd almost be addition by subtraction for the Jets in that for the 15 million their going to pay him, they could probably sign 3 good or 2 very good players at need positions. I think Macc knows that and the fact that he tagged him, leads me to believe that he thibnks he can trade him.
Its a great point but I think the coaching staff deserves part and probably most of the blame. Under Rex's leadership, the coaching staff did not develop one young offensive player to even the level of average, not one. Brick and Mangold presede Rex. There were no other linemen he developed. There were no WRs he developed. There were no TEs he developed. There were no RBs he developed (Powell might have reached the level of average, but not until this year). Six yeras and couldn't develop one young offensive player. On defense, Revis preceded Rex and uys like Pace and Cro were already developed when the arrived. So I'll give him credit for the dline (Wilk, Sheldon and Snacks) and I'll also give him Harris, who I'd say is average. So in 6 years, the defensive guru developed 4 players to the level of average or above (give credit where its due - the 3 dlineman are all well above average). I'd say the scouting department was not great, but more importantly, every offensive player and with a few exceptions, the defensive players too, were all doomed the moment they got drafted by or signed with the Rex Ryan Jets.
