This would be a solid signing if he recovers well form the acl. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000643587/article/visits-tracker-kelvin-beachum-to-visit-jets
This would be a great signing. I don't think for the bigger offensive lineman it's ever so much of a concern in IF they recover without their play suffering. The bigger issue becomes if they can avoid tearing it again. They're not cutting or running at extreme speeds to the ppint where they can't do it as fast or doubt themselves in making the cut. Jason Peters comes to mind as a tackle that while is able to sustain the same high level of play, often injured his lower body in a severe manner. From what I've heard from several friends that are Steelers fans is that Beachum is a better pass protector than he is run blocker making him a prime left tackle candidate. His signing would most definitely indicate a cutting of Brick if he doesn't take a huge pay cut. I could be wrong. They could look at Beachum as a right tackle replacement. He's young and seems to be in relatively good enough shape at 6'3", 303 pounds to recover nicely from the injury while the more massive men like Peters can't continue putting all that pressure (at 350+) on their ACL/MCL and achilles.
I hope he signs and they cut DBrick. Breno is overpaid but there is not a player IN THE LEAGUE making more $$ for less production than DBrick, You should not pay guys for what they did in the past.
i wonder if the can get brick to take a cut, cut breno slide beachum to rt for a year and than move him to lt next year and put qvale/new player at rt. saves a bunch of space and improves the line more than just swapping brick for beachum
Beachum is an ascending player. He is a left tackle so if he gets signed Brick will be cut. I also think Breno will get cut and they will go with Qvale will be the RT. Jets have to get younger on the OL and LB. I also believe the Jets are bound and determined to get an outside rusher.
the amount of pay cut brick would have to take would be akin to cutting him anyhow. i dont view that as realistic.
Another Tackle I wish we'd look at is Andre Smith. He was apart of a very successful Bengals Oline last year and would obviously be a massive upgrade over Breno.
why? how much of a cut does brick have to take? his base salary is 9.5 i believe. if we can cut that down to 5 and save 4.5 thats not bad. on top of cutting breno we just made close to 10 in cap space
right, I agree. we can rework his deal and pay him fair market value. Beachum would really be a huge add and give us tremendous flexibility to make some moves cap wise.
only fly in the ointment is i think i read beachum wants to play lt. if he isn't willing to go to rt i think i would pass. too risky coming off the acl to cut brick for him. i.m.o.
I would like this move. He's a nice fit and I think he could play both LT or RT... Especially if we cut Breno!
because thats an insanely enormous amount to cut into bricks salary, not to mention it just prolongs the issue. cut brick and breno and you save 14 million i see 0 reason to keep brick
Brick has been over paid a good amount the last 2 seasons its time for him to restructure or or we should take our chances on a draft/fa selection.
Brick has a dead money hit on the cap this year of $5 million. We can't go any lower, and I don't think he'll play for free. We'd have to cut him or not get as big a cut.
No way we should restructure Brick. That's how he wound up with such a huge cap hit last year, this year and next year. He restructured for Tanny at least twice I think. He should just be cut.
