As I watched tonight's game I typed up some thoughts. I'll be curious to see what other people think. Here goes: 1. I don't see why everyone rags on Fitz for having a noodle arm. He threw a number of long passes tonight, most of which were thrown very nicely. However, what really surprised me was when the announcers mentioned that Fitz was one of two (I think) QBs with the most long completions last year. [edit: I didn't know this stat... interesting stuff]. He may not have a powerful arm, but I think people overplay this who noodle arm thing. He has a decent to good arm for a starting QB IMHO--not exceptional but much stronger than Chad was. 2. I feel like Marshall is a bit of a choke artist. Does anyone else feel like he loses focus when the stakes get highest? Most of the time he is reasonably sure handed, but in CRITICAL moments all of a sudden he screws up. Maybe it is just my perception. 3. Revis Is genuinely worrying me. We are paying him premium money and he is quite literally getting burned back there. Which brings me to my next point.... 4. Offense vs. Defense: before this season began I would have strongly advocated that our strength remained our defense, while our offense still had holes (primarily in the OL). It is starting to look like the offense will be our strength! Meanwhile, our defense often looks like Swiss cheese beyond the DL. 5. Before the season began someone on the board suggested that the key to unlocking B. Marshall and Decker was getting Enunwa involved. I was almost sure this was correct but I was too much of a pussy to take a stand at the time. Well, now that it looks like this position is right I figured I'd man up and take a stand.... But seriously, Enunwa has been great awesome for opening up a third receiver option. 6. Forte: when we picked him up I was not at all enthusiastic. Here was a RB who had passed the 30y.o. marker AND had a lot of mileage. The track record on these players is underwhelming to say the least, but I've been pleasantly surprised. That said, if we expect Forte to be an asset for 16 games we had better use him sparingly! My concern is that Powell is clearly being outperformed by Forte at the moment, so unless Powell picks up his game or another RB fills in we will have to rely on Forte until he runs down..... and then our running game will be kaput. 7. Folk: He was great tonight. This gives me hope that last game was merely a hiccup; knocking the rust off after his injury. It sucks that it likely cost us a game, but if he returns to/maintains form he will probably win us a game (or two) we would've otherwise lost down the line. So perhaps it will even out.
Nice win. The NFL is an offensive league. This is the kind of game the league likes. The rules are made for this stuff. Enjoy it.
I hope FUMBLING isnt gonna be an issue with J.Marshall that was costly. My biggest concern is the defense...
He's a very promising player, but he had fumbling issues in the preseason too. That's why I was advocating for keeping Ross on the roster. Hopefully he sorts it out, he can be a big part of our future.
My thoughts are simple: This team looks better than last year's team. We gotta eliminate the blown coverages, and there's no reason we can't contend with any team in the league.
All you had to see was the tease before the game....Namath and Jim Kelly ragging on each other. Joe guaranteed the win. W
Buster and Marcus played will tonight. So did Darron Lee. Revis is an old man and we need to change our coverage to account that he's not 09 Revis anymore. He can still cover but he needs to be on and hand fight at the LOS with safety help. Revis got burned on one play. Rontez came in for Pryor on another and bit on Taylor scrambling, slipped and let Salas get behind him on another. A fumble was returned for a TD when Jalin Marshall got hit thrice on a short pass, it happens sometimes. Besides those three plays, they have 10 points and like 130-150 yards if that. We need to shore up these kinds of mishaps and we'll be playing like the cream of the crop in the AFC.
Thoughts on jets post game live over on sny; A. Ray Lucas looks like a clown with that beard B. Mike westhoff still bitter at the jets
I can't believe I forgot about that one. Yea, that one concerned me. My wife and I watched that play a few times and I think he may have lost his grip when he got smacked on the head--his neck twisted pretty violently. Then again, as HomeoftheJets noted, he apparently has fumbling issues, so maybe I'm just looking for an excuse for him.
Forte can't see so many touches a game he is pretty damn good but does have alot of mileage. He won't make it through the season.
It be interesting to see what Pope can do if he gets a few carries a game. I live in the NW and Seattle fans say he'll stick in this league.
Darron Lee made his presence felt. Impressive. He's gonna be a good player. The D can be better. I expect them to work towards that and shore up the mistakes. The white unis were great
I don't think many backs would last a full season running up the middle like we saw tonight. Side note he is a lot quicker than I realized, there were a couple times he turned nothing into something just because he could eat up yards so quickly.
He's patient and still fleet of foot. Powell will see plenty of touches as the season goes on, I'm sure
