ORIGINAL DeShaun Watson Just Hoping Browns Didn’t See His Great Performance Moments after shocking Alabama with an all-time great performance, Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson immediately began to panic as he realized that he may very well be drafted by the Cleveland Browns. “Wait. They weren’t watching that, right?” Watson asked his teammates as they mobbed him in celebration. “Like, it’s after midnight. Maybe they think I threw a pick at the end? Can we tell the newspapers that?” Upon being reminded that he was a national champion, which is widely considered a very good thing, Watson requested that everyone just “keep this on the down-low for a little bit.” “Just until May or so,” Watson told head coach Dabo Swinney. “Cool? But like for real, can we just tone down the confetti a bit? I’m worried, guys.” From: https://thekicker.com/deshaun-watson-just-hoping-browns-didnt-see-his-great-performance/
May be a stretch to say he'll fall that far but I've seen crazier things happen and you're right - it's a long way to April. A lot can happen. Haven't even had the Senior Bowl or combine yet. The Deshaun Watson hype machine is at its peak today. If I'm Watson, I probably run but don't throw at the Combine and then host teams for private workouts.
And his point is that if you draft Watson or a QB with the 6th pick and that QB pans out, there's a chance that you will be a perennial superbowl contender , in part, due to the outstanding play of Watson. That's why you take a QB early... so that your odds of landing a franchise QB increases, which in turn likely increases your odds of winning a superbowl. A QB won't solve all of the Jets problem, but it's the largest piece of the puzzle and without one, their only chance of winning a SB will be as a lucky 9-7 wildcard team. Calling the selection of a QB at 6 a waste, is just inaccurate. You're selecting a player to play the most important position in the sport.. how is that a waste?
Exactly. i made this argument earlier in the thread. there is a difference between wrs bailing out a qb on 50/50 balls all game and watching a qb put the ball where only his guy can make a play. brady does it with gronk all the time.
Dallas has at least one future HOFer on that line and 2 other guys who are all pro. Everyone makes it seems like you can just draft an offensive linemen and follow Dallas blueprint. You can't.
If we grab Watson we are done looking at qbs for atleast 2 years. and if he doesn't pan out we will have high draft picks to select o lineman
He's a winner, and he's had 2 of his best games against the best team on the biggest stage....that said he's the 3rd qb on Mel Kipers board right now, so it's not entirely impossible that he would fall to us..... that's beside the point now..... last night cemented it in my mind that we need to do whatever it takes to get Watson.....
Can we talk about another Clemson Tiger as a target of the Jets? That Williams kid is a certified stud! I don't like taking a WR that high and it's definitely not our top need but damn I would love to see him in green and White!
I don't think throwing to the numbers was going to get it done against that Alabama defense. Can't remember seeing a college team stacked with defensive talent like that. #10 Reuben Foster was amazing. Wouldn't mind the Jets drafting him if they can't get Watson.
Keyshawn Johnson made Ray Lucas look great. Helll Keyshawn Johnson made Ray Lucas look great. Hell, half of the time Matt Stafford hit Megatron I would swear than Stafford had his eyes shut when throwing the ball. Take the stud WR and let QB take care of itself.
Absolutely. Telling me a team with Petty/Hack/random vet is not in danger of worst record in the league?
I agree. With our schedule next year and the amount of holes this team has... We may very well be the worst team in the league.
AJ McCarron was a "winner," Matt Leinert was a winner. This list goes on and on. Watson has thrown THIRTY Int's past 2 seasons in college.
And when we have a QB the question is, "who is he going to throw to?" Whoever the QB is they need weapons to work with. If anything, you build up the OL and skill positions to mask a deficiency at QB.
Williams is the guy who stood out most for me. Great body positioning, good hands and plays taller than his 6'3".
Watson would be the perfect example of a player being over drafted - the hype of winning the national championship clouds the imperfections this kid has shown through-out the past season. Do the Jets really need another player holding the clip board with a deer-in the headlights - look? They have too many holes to fill to take that kind of chance on a questionable #1 - I say draft the BPA.
The question you have to ask is does Watson look like he will play like Wentz/Prescott or does he seem more like Goff who looks a year away from even looking serviceable. Goff was supposed to be the closest thing to a sure thing. Everyone thought so. I just don't want to be on a quarterback carousel for years while he develops.
