Forte needed a fullback big time last year, the three tight ends did not get it done blocking for him, if Fitz was in more 3rd and 3 situations instead of 3rd and 7 all day he still would have sucked but maybe not as bad when it came to interceptions. Perfect scenario for me is Taylor at QB, Fournette or Cook behind him a fullback that can block and a tight end used that can be picked up as a free agent. Spend every other draft pick on offensive line and Defense.
I agree. Just wanted to see what everyone here thinks. I would add ILB to the list of needs. Erin Henderson is gone and Bruce Carter probably will be as well. Harris could still be gone as well. If nothing else they need depth at ILB. Mac may address this via FA, but there are some pretty good ones in the draft. RB is in the mix as well as TE.
I don't think a draft pick should ever be wasted on a FB. Pick up a cheap one in FA and focus the draft on positions that matter. I'm sick of the Jets focusing on the run game because they have no QB. Find a freaking QB once and for all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Teams with a solid balanced Oline and a decent blocking TE only use a FB to get an edge. Teams with a garbage Oline, no TEs and no QB use a FB as a wide receiver. Stop looking at blocking FBs and start looking for the next Richie Anderson.
Our running game would probably benefit greatly from an old school lead blocker type FB, which Tolbert and Reece certainly aren't. Patrick DiMarco is exactly that; but this also makes him somewhat one-dimensional. So my choice would be Kyle Juszczyk (Ravens), who not only blocks very well but also is a great receiver out of the backfield and a very solid pass protector (and he is younger than all three above).
Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully the Jets are considering him instead of Tolbert, Reece and DiMarco.
I understand where you're coming from. In the recent past, I haven't even wanted a FB, but with the likelihood that the Jets aren't going to be able to do a lot to upgrade their OL this offseason, and the likelihood that Petty or Hack may be starting, along with a TE, a FB could be a big asset. I'm not talking about a one-dimensional FB who can only block, nor am I talking about a FB who can run the ball a little and and is a good receiver, but not a good blocker. I hope they can find one who is primarily an excellent blocker, but who also is a pretty good receiver and could function as the power back in short yardage and goal line situations, as well as playing on STs. He could help protect the QB and open holes for our RBs. If there's a player like that who is head and shoulders better than the other FBs in the draft, I think he would be worthy of a 7th round pick. If they could sign the Juszczyk guy from the Ravens or sign a UDFA, that would be great too. Regarding the QB, unless Petty or Hack prove to be the answer this season, or the Jets draft a QB and he proves to be the answer, they're not gonna find that FQB this season, so they have to do what they can to improve the team and help the offense and QBs they do have.
DiMarco is a hoss of a lead blocker. If the Jets are going to draft Fournette, he's exactly the FB we want. If they aren't going to draft Fournette, then they should get a more versatile player.
Yes, this is the "old school" FB model and one that they should resurrect. If hey take Fournette, it will help him getly, but even if they took Cook or McCaffrey or other similar RB, this type of FB would complement them well. I'd prefer finding one in the later rounds of the draft or an UDFA, rather than having to pay more money for a FA, but whoever fits that description would be a plus.
