The good news for Gardner is that in Week 1 we'll be facing off against Baltimore who will most likely run the ball 40 times for like 200 yards.
Pugh that finger wag was beyond fucking atrocious…on the plays when he didn’t get toasted, I remember watching him trail a receiver by two yards and then if the QB overthrew the ball, he’d start with his finger wagging or his arms flailing wide like a baseball ump’s safe sign and I couldn’t stomach that guy…it’s like dude you had NOTHING to do with that miss. I’d be shocked if the dude had more than 10 passes defenses. God he was awful. on another note, and not that it means anything, but I HATE the look of the number 1 on a uniform….beyond the egomaniac implications of it, it just plains looks stupid on a football jersey. It works in baseball or basketball, but on a football jersey it just looks all kinds of bad.
Seems like Sauce will be introduced to Lamar Jackson quite a bit. Our LB's, not the best crew in the league, will get a workout unless the Ravens have a secret weapon at Wr.
Andrews and the running game are what I'm concerned about. Our CS needs to look at how the Titans and Bills shut down Jackson in the playoffs and see if they can do something similar.
Bateman, although unproven, is their top WR without question. My guess is they sign some vet before camp - Beasley, Hilton or even Landry.
Landry signed with NO, which is good because he toasted us at Miami and Cleve. QBs are going to test Gardner at first, no doubt. My hope is that he intercepts the first pass thrown in his direction, then he can take the rest of his career off.
My thinking is that the defensive coordinator is not going to leave Sauce on an island with the top opposing receiver. He is too green. What I believe they will do is play mostly zone. And in the instances they do play man-to-man, they put the top CB (may or may not be Sauce) on an island with the 2nd best receiver and the 2nd best CB on the top receiver with safety help. From what I remember, that is why Rex loved Revis so much, his skills allowed him to put Revis on an island with the top receiver and Cromartie on an island with the 2nd best receiver and it freed up someone on the defense to do something else (usually blitz). I don't think they let Revis or Namdie or Sherman cover the top receiver until a little later in their careers. The only one who might have done as far as I know is Primetime.
