I trust Glenn to know his CBs and so have faith in this kid to step in soon as CB2. All I’ll say is that’s a fucking crazy place for an apostrophe.
I think the narrative that we have to trust Glenn to know the value of all CBs is simply false. Every team has direct access to plethora of former and current players and coaches that played and coached every position. So, yes, he does know how to evaluate CBs, but no more so than any other team, until proven otherwise.
The more I think about it, the more I believe this is our David Branch. Now, I don't know if he will play safety or Stephens, but I think the thought is that we have our DB starters locked up with Sauce, Stephens, Thomas, and Cisco. There is also flexibility in case someone gets hurt to move one to CB and bring in Adams. But I do think Thomas is thought of as a DB starter along with Stephens.
I’m liking this pick more and more. Tall long rangy Corners with man coverage skills are hard to find, and very important for Glenn’s blitz heavy defense. They had a second round grade on him too so it’s good value. Best part about it though is I think the plan for Stephens is to play S. I found him to be the most baffling offseason move if he was signed for CB. This restores a little FO confidence if that wasn’t the intent.
Brian Branch. But I don’t think so, I think that’s Malachi Moore. Thomas is an outside corner through and through.
100%. Moore will play S and slot CB, and be used like Branch in Detroit. Thomas is an outside man coverage corner which there was a need for. good moves for the future of this secondary. My only question is Stephens, but it has to be S (I hope).
The Stephens signing honestly makes no sense at this point but I’d assume Thomas gets redshirted and Moore gets eased in behind MC3 unless he really lights up training camp.
You can never have too many DB's. They are always dinged up, insert Michael Carter II. This kid was just too good of a value to pass up, just like Moore was (S). I really like what we did with the back end in the offseason. We have Sauce under control for his 5th year and can franchise as well. Honestly, Sauce becomes replaceable if this Thomas kid works out. Not sure I love the idea of paying a CB 30M a year... Stephens was a guy who had position versatility and maybe Ryan Clarks kid from ND can get into the mix later this year in the slot.
Hope you’re right I get the value in top flight corners…this is a passing league, so I have no issue paying a top CB money…and if Sauce comes back to form after a down year last year, much of which I attribute to the coaching changes and general turmoil on the team, I would be in favor of signing him long term…I always like to sign players a year early rather than the stupid “wait and let them test the market” or franchise tag bullshit…that never works out well because salaries only ever go up each year. That being said, I hope Mougey and AG are right about this corner, because slow corners are not top corners ever.
not so sure about that. Xavien Howard fell to the second round because he ran a 4.58 which coincidentally is the same as what Thomas was clocked at at his pro day (he didn't run at the combine). Joe Haden was also quite slow in the 40 and he's been successful at times.
In all honesty, I expect Glenn to move Arian Smith, the only WR drafted who can't catch a football to DB2, and Azareye'h moved out of the DB room and paired with Garrett. Makes too much sense!
Ok so you’re saying there’s a chance! Look I’m hoping for the best, but like with the 4th round WR, I’m more skeptical than optimistic…and yes I would love to come back and have to eat those words later when they both ball out…certainly if we get a starting quality corner in round 3 that is a great get…and a WR who can contribute in round 4 that’s great too…Cotchery was a 4th round receiver as well and was a good WR2 for us…
He has a sister called Na'Taliyeh and a brother called Azende'. It's going to play fucking havoc with the scouting teams spreadsheets.
Not only do I think he has a great chance, but his game speed combined with field position is pretty darned good. He was a first rounder going in earlier this year till he run the forties. People re position him as a second rounder. Still a great pick. I am of the opinion that he might turn out to be a younger version of DJ Reed with great cover skills (who BTW run a 4:51 at the combine.)
