Picked up the custom rod today. My guy did a masterful job on it. Can't wait for next week's Tiletrip.
Great! I would imagine 20 lbs plus. Just hoping for flatter seas than last weekend. Got beat up on that smallish boat although the Voyager is a 100ft. cruiser it still can get really bumpy.
Short in shore Fluke trip yesterday netted 13 Skates, 1 Sea Robin, and 1 Aquarium sized Seabass. Fished the Mantaloking Pipe and the Axel. Happy Fathers Day! Going to fish off the beach with a good friend. Heard the Stripers are still around, and decent sized Fluke are in the Surf.
Had a decent 2.5 day offshore run. 9 bluelines, only 2 goldens and 10 Rosie Reds. Current got rough near the end of the trip. We had to go to 5lbs and had to lay out almost 400yds of scope just to get the bait down to the bottom. Suddenly my headboat Capt. got religion about bag limits so we had to let a lot go back. Guess NJ DNR must have put the fear in him as he was strict about everyone getting their limits. Wasn't that long ago, bag limits were pretty much ignored but not anymore. Noticed the Goldens are getting smaller too. No giants on this trip and most of the fish caught were female.
You're right. My last several trip yielded smaller golden tiles and they were also mostly females full of roe. Starting to wonder if they should start having a closed season for Tiles so the population can rebound. Obviously, this time of year is spawn for Tilefish.
to be honest, unless the species breeds year round, most species should be closed during the time of their peak spawning season...
Fished the beach Sunday with my buddy. His son caught a keeper Striped Bass. Hooked for life now! My buddy lost a pole dragged into the waves by a fish. He ran after it and almost filled his waders!
Cman were in in the Hudsonwhen you caught the smaller tiles? if weather holds might get out to the Tom’s for Bluefin and tiles.
We were a lot further south. 12hr run one-way almost due south. Large Bluelines and Hake were running so if you go, you might want to consider targeting them instead of goldies. Really large Rosie Reds came over the rail too.
The limit until July 1 is 27 to 47 for Recreational Boaters with a Highly Migratory Species license. One per boat. After July 1 it goes to 73"
Might do Keansburg Pier this weekend. Not sure what's running atm but I'm sure something will hit clam, killies or gulp baits.
