Cool, so you you booked a private inshore charter? was gonna say, that's your best (most fun) option.... 20" inshore flounder is a nice one... and they're gonna be closed next month... Did you find the reds and snook on skinny water flats/creeks? fun stuff on light tackle.

Yeah Id say May is our best month for fishing here... especially for pelagics

Found the Reds and snook in the bay (river) just off Port Canaveral. The charter was good. The Capt, nice young man, found fish for us. It was the channel NASA uses to retrieve the spent rocket boosters. Saw a retrieval barge coming in from the launch the night before. It was huge!!

Inshore fishing was our only option due to the wind. it was a blast on light tackle! Reds put up quite a fight. Had our drags screaming several times. Made the most out of this trip and got a prime spot next spring! Got no problem fishing Port Canaveral again in the future.

Very cool. So probably by Playalinda?

I was always an offshore guy and thought of inshore fishing as a way to kill some beer.... but when I got my kayak and got a fat 27" red on 8lb test in little more than a 1' of water i got it. :)

We don't get much snook up this way, but with climate change and shit warming we're starting to get some. Usually Flagler county is the cutoff to find them in numbers.

We were told at the tackle shop that the Capts in the Gulf are pretty skittish when it comes to high winds. Anything 20kts or higher and itsa no go. I get it. Going forward, I will never book so late in the season again. Along those lines, I did find another target area in the Northern Gulf I might want to check out as a Plan B just in case. Tarpon Springs has offshore options and is only a 2.5hr trip instead of the 4hr Marco Is. run and quite a bit cheaper too.

This Florida fishing thing can become an annual event. I always seem to hit some nice fish down there. Gonna have to do JAX one day too. Perhaps a day charter near shore? Port Canaveral is only 1hr from the Sanford Florida Autotrain Station. Pretty good seafood in Port Canaveral too.

Anyway, headed out on Tuesday for some nearshore Sea Bassing just for something to do. Got one last long range trip to Coxes Ledge on 11/17-18. Finishing out the season in a blaze of glory! :)

Broke the inlet at 5:30 AM. Went to the Resor wreck. Lines in at 7:30 AM. Limited out by 10:00 AM.

60+ Seabass biggest was 2.65 lb. Many were in the 2 lb range. Seas were little bumpy out of NW. Slammer ride home.

Cut fish and cleaned up early enough to catch the 2nd half of the Jets Bagels game.

    Great day!

3 weeks until Coxes Ledge. My last offshore trip of the year unless I hear more stories about Seabass jumping into the boats. :)

Learned a hard lesson my last inshore trip. Lost too many fish on short hits due to my hooks being too large. They were 4/0 circles which don't work very well with SeaBass and/or Porgies. Just spent today downsizing my rigs to 20# and 3/0 trokar hooks hand tied instead of crimped.

Also having a Shimano 8ft XH TALEVRA reel seat replaced with a larger size to hold a PENN Slammer IV 5500 DX. SHIMANOs are smaller by design than PENNs and I needed a reel seat seat 1/2in larger than the one that came with the rod.

I will keep the cork handle although I prefer EVO. Used this rod in Port Canaveral and it is indeed a great boat rod. Great action and sensitivity.

    2 weeks until Coxes' Ledge..
