My favorite fact about this is that Rivers is replacing Daniel Jones, who was the Giants first first-round quarterback since Rivers.
Ha, no.... I was in the truck with a buddy driving home from the airport at sunrise (practically no sleep) and he had espn radio on. Barely listening, I heard "Phillip Rivers", and was like WTF... we thought we were still delirious... That being said, as much as I want to the Colts to fail for the JETS benefit, it would be pretty awesome to see the guy come in cold after 5 years of playing with his kids at home and kick some ass...
I saw a funny comment along the lines of "You know when he saw this that Tom Brady's helmet started talking to him from his closet like the Green Goblin's Mask telling him to get back in the game"
I watched almost every offensive snap the Colts had because the story was too damn intriguing. They went with the Peyton Manning SB50 approach when they brought Rivers in. He’s always going to get them in the right play against the look they’re facing. Light box? Check to the run play and run towards the tight end? Off coverage? Throw the quick receiver screen for an easy 8 when your receivers outflank the defensive backs. It almost worked. Great story and I love watching Rivers play. But man his arm is DEAD. Tough to blame him, it was dead before he retired and it’s even more dead now.
Some are pointing out online that Rivers real motivation to come back is the 5 year fully paid medical insurance from the NFL after retirement for himself and his family (12 children) was about to run out. Now it resets for another 5 years.
Imagine walking out of that tunnel after 5 years on your couch knowing there's 53 hungry young guys on the other side that want to knock you out so bad.
