I went through the numbers. The Jets/Titans have had 19 winning seasons, 35 losing seasons, and 12 seasons with a .500 finish (or 31 seasons with a non-losing record). The Jets have made the playoffs 14 times and have only reached the playoffs in consecutive seasons 5 times (1968-1969, 1981-1982, 1985-1986, 2001-2002, 2009-2010) and have never made it to the playoffs three seasons in a row. Also included are three major playoff droughts: 1960-1967 (8 SEASONS) 1970-1980 (11 SEASONS) 2011-Present (15 SEASONS....AND COUNTING) They also had a stretch from 1987-1997 where they missed the playoffs 10 out of 11 seasons. The mos sustained success came with the arrival of Parcells. Starting with Parcells' arrival, the Jets had 6 consecutive non-losing seasons, beating their previous best of 4 consecutive non-losing seasons. The Jets also only had three losing seasons between Parcells' arrival and the beginning of the current playoff drought in 2011 (2003, 2005, 2007) There have been some bad stretches in Jets' history, but this one stands out as the worst by far. As bad as some of those teams were, they still managed to stumble into the playoffs every once in a while. It also shows just how good Parcells was. He only coached here three years, but the foundation he laid set the team up for its longest period of success.
Oprah was still on the air, Amy Winehouse, Osama bin Laden and Muammar Qaddafi were still alive, Minecraft and the Game of Thrones series were only about to be created.
I don't know about that one. The 2015 offense with Fitzpatrick, Moore, Decker, Bilal was pretty darn good. I can't believe it's been 10 years since. That is one of my favorite Jets teams ever.
Technically 1970-80 was 11 straight non playoff years. 4 of those seasons the team finished at .500. This current streak is longer and a lot worse. Throw out 2015 and every other season was below .500. Or start at 2016 to now and that is 10 straight losing seasons altogether…. Bad football just bad…
I have a good one …. The good ole 2000 season finale in Baltimore. Needing a win to get into the playoffs the Jets got out to a 14-0 lead but blew it. They lost 34-20. The Ravens scored 3 non offensive TDs and the Jets finished with I think 22 first downs compared to the Ravens 5!!! Oh and Vinny threw for almost 500 yards on that Ravens defense …. Try to beat that one ….
A lot of reasons…..bad schemes, bad players, and bad luck. A few have been dropped….but mostly the first 3.
I was just getting ready to mention Testaverde's stat line but I saw you edited your post to include it once I started my reply. Even beyond that, though, the Jets outgained the Ravens 524-142 with the Ravens having a very 2025 Jet-like passing performance, with Dilfer finishing at 99 yards. That game was one of the best examples you'll find of turnovers being one of the deciding factors in a game. The Jets had 6 of them in the game.
That game was an absolute gut punch and it ruined my Christmas Eve …. I was younger then. Nowadays it’s just noise lol
Same. Although the bigger gut punch, I think, was a week or two before when they failed another win-and-in game against Detroit.
