One other guy I’d be thinking about is Davis Mills…I think he was a later pick in the Lawrence / Wilson draft but I could be wrong there, but I would absolutely trade for him if Houston is taking the call…I’d give a third no problem, and if it took a 2nd, I’d probably do that too as we have a bunch of first round picks…he’s not a pro bowler maybe but he is a competent starter in this league and would be a nice relatively young bridge QB who would allow us to pass on drafting QB2 if need be and use those first rounders to go BPA, and then see about drafting a QB next year. I’d probably also be fine with Willis. That would be me… But…if you were to ask me what I think will happen, I’d say when you have a coach on the hot seat he will do whatever gives him the best security, and there’s no better than drafting a QB and then they get two things…Woody gets to sell hope to the fanbase that is pretty apathetic these days, and AG gets to claim he needs time to develop the new QB. We still have a chance to get the 2nd overall pick if the Giants can win and we lose I think, but assuming we have either the 2nd or 3rd pick, I think we’ll take a QB.
For some reason I spaced on Mills. I "knew" who I wanted to mention but completely forgot his name! Hey, I'm getting old! Definitely added to the mix! My guess is The Jets end up drafting Moore or Mateer. Talked to a few people and this is what the logic says. IMO, Giants are going to try and trade out of the 2 slot (likely landing place) and roll with Dart. I doubt anyone is going to hit their asking price but that's just a guess. Which leaves Moore et. al.
Willis is intriuging and maybe even Davis Mills, but I don't think he's worth a 2nd unless he played even better than I realized. One thing they seemingly did wrong this offseason was get a QB who doesn't seem to fit what their OC wants to do. IDK how in the world that happened and who was most at fault between Mougey, Glenn and Engstrand, but it's pretty egregious and pathetic we should need to point this out. Whoever they pursue at QB needs to be a strong fit for Engstrand's scheme or he needs to be prepared to tailor his scheme to a certain QB. To me, something went wrong in this process even beyond Fields being terrible - which was the main issue - but it was also clear Engstrand needed somebody else to operate his offense. This cannot happen again. They need a good fit
Please, please, please no on Moore. I'd much rather go with that beast Rueben Bain Jr. out of Miami. He was unstoppable against OSU the other night. He played his best against the best comp. He's a potential game wrecker. Or a stud WR or another position of need with a premium prospect. And then we address QB in FA with Willis or Huntley. They both impressed me and look like seasoned, youngish vets.
Make no mistake, I'm on the bandwagon you described for sure! I'm one of those that do not like either QB being tagged as 1st rounders. This team needs all it's draft capital so NO trading up, get a solid FA QB for next year, get BPA all along the 2026 draft and go into 2027 looking to go QB when there should be better options. At this point, if a guy like Mills, Willis or Huntley pan out then I'm cool with shelving the QB talk in 2027 too. Or, at the very least being very choosy. If, somehow, this team can get to .500 next year and/or show significant improvement it opens up a whole truck load of things they can try going forward. Side note: Seeing as I know nothing about Bain, I went and pulled up some footage. Definitely wouldn't kick him off our roster if they can get him! Looks solid! More watching to come.
I cannot "infer" something for you - you do that to yourself; I never even implied that Glenn had nothing to do with the decision. You have, however, stated, unequivocally that Glenn was the person responsible for hiring Fields. It is only in the last few days that you have accepted that Mougey was even partially responsible even though, as the GM, he's the guy responsible for securing players. Those "voices" I quoted came from your postings here - not mine.
You're a Jets fan, right? Assuming the answer is still "Yes" why would the Jets be looking for another guy to "end" his NFL career here? The Jets need to find a guy to begin his NFL career here and make it a long one! BTW - Who cares what the "consensus" is? First of all, the consensus varies according to who is claiming it; second, it's wrong more often than not when compared to which QB is the most successful in the class.
When I said "end" I was being facetious. The POINT being this team is where QB's go to die. By making the decision to come to the Jets would effectively END their careers. JSMH None of those QB's are coming to the Jets with a LOT better situations available to them, not to mention their current teams might have something to say about it.
There will always be free agents available to sign for the Jets. Didn't Taylor/Fields prove that for you? Huntley/Wallis doesn't get me saying "Championship!" anyway.
