Football: Cowboys' Coleman, Johnson visit other teams Tom Orsborn Express-News Staff Writer Two of the Dallas Cowboys? unrestricted free agents are expected to visit other teams either today or Saturday. Defensive end Kenyon Coleman, who had four sacks last season, will visit Cleveland and the New York Jets. Center Al Johnson, a second-round pick in 2003 who started 31 of 32 games in 2004-2005 before losing his job to Andre Gurdoe, will visit Tampa Bay. Former Arizona offensive lineman Leonard Davis is expected to visit the Cowboys this afternoon. Davis, a Wortham native who starred at Texas and was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2001 draft, could take over at right guard if Marco Rivera is unable to play. Rivera, who turns 35 in April, recently underwent back surgery for the second time in three years. The Cowboys? other unrestricted free agents are right tackle Marc Colombo, kicker Martin Gramatica, safety Tony Parish and linebacker Al Singleton. The Cowboys are negotiating with Colombo?s agent, but the talks don?t seem to be getting anywhere. The Cowboys have put a $1.3 million tender on receiver Patrick Crayton and $850,000 tenders on defensive backs Nate Jones and Jacques Reeves and linebacker/special teams ace Ryan Fowler. If another team wants to sign Crayton, it would have to give the Cowboys a second-round pick as compensation. The Cowboys also have the right to match any offer.
If we come out of this weekend with Joey Porter and Kenyon Coleman added to our front seven, I'll be very happy.
The difference between Coleman and the likes of Kassell, Chatham, etc. is that Coleman is a relatively young player (28) who has shown flashes of skill in limited playing time in a 3-4 defense while Chatham and Kassell were already known failures. Apparently, Parcells made a recommendation to Tannenbaum about him, so I'd be very pleased if we signed Coleman.
Let me get this straight so I understand.. 28 is considered young still but 29 is considered old? Do I have that right..
lol 21-26 is young.. anything between 27-31 is usually prime.. anything after well you know. imo atleast
Brown/Duckett Coleman Banta Cain/Porter That wouldnt be a bad way to start free agency... I really want Porter...Doesnt look like they will even bring him in for a visit though.
it's the best way to go about this offseason...mediocre FAs + tons of cap space = why waste our money? it'll be better spent on our own talent and players in upcoming seasons...no reason to break the bank on garbage
Parcells was pretty high on Coleman, he showed some flashes last year; has experience in 3-4, it would a good signing.
You sound like my dad when I wanted to get rims for my car when I was 17... Don't waste your money on those rims, you could use that for a new transmission some day.
