http://www.nflpa.org/Resources/ActivePlayerSearch.aspx?id=34490 ok these are excluding bonus money. that alone should tell you Fox is wrong. in fact it looks D rob is about seriously cash in the next few years.
I liked Starks coming out of college. Because of his athleticism and size, many scouts pegged him as solely a 3 technique DT. But I think he would do well as a NT because he is so unbelievably strong. Remember Jason Ferguso was a very effective 3-4 NT at just a little over 300 lbs. However, as much as like Starks, I think between Robertson, Pouha, Tui, Moore and you could even add Mosley into that mix, we should be fine.
Damn, I liked him a lot. He was coming on real strong this past pre-season before the injury. When did he get released?
I'm not sure, but I believe there were rumors floating around that his injury was more servere than most had thought. Perhaps a career ender?
yea this guy would def be a 3-4 end not a nose tackle and i wouldnt mind him bein on this squad im not sure bout a 3rd rounder a 4th rounder and id jump for joy with enthusiasm but a 3rd might be alil much
I've been wanting Starks for a while. He'll only be 23 next year, he's got perfect size to be an end, he's a decent guy, and it would only cost us a third. He's a steal waiting to happen. Restrict. Free. Agent. How about the Raiders Tommy Kelly? He's 6'6 300, very long, very strong, and a RFA available for a second. If we got either of these two guys in RFA, I'd be a happy Jets fan.
it went under the radar. it was a injury settlement/ release. i didnt notice it till a few weeks ago look over the jets roster on the official site.
I've read many times that an ideal NT is actually shorter and heavier than taller and lighter. 6'6 is apparently a disadvantage at the nose position because being lower to the ground would give one a better push or somethin like that?? It doesn't look to me that Kelly would make for a good NT based on criteria I've stumbled upon in the past.
The whole idea is that the NT is able to gain leverage on blockers to occupy them. As an example, try to arm wrestle someone with equal strength, but shorter arms... You will lose every time.
I meant as an end for our rotation. But I guess that would be kind of a waste because well...we have two starters signed, and Kelly would definitely be a starter.
This is true to an extent, but the short arms thing is false. These guys still need to be able to shed. Ted Washington is 6-5. It's really just a matter of being a big strong man. True, the bigger guys can get stood up, but I don't think there are many guys at the center position who are going to stand up Marcus Stroud. I believe Starks could be a more poor man's Richard Seymour, rotating inside and outside. -X-
And Ted Washinton is the model by which all NTs are measured. 6'5" is considered an ideal height for NTs as long as they have the weight and strength to go along with it. Aside from stopping the run, they also want the height to knock down passes over the middle.
I should have added that Alan Branch is considered the best NT prospect in the draft and he's 6'6" and 325. It's his strength and speed that makes him a top 10 pick.
ok , they're sayin' it might - MIGHT go something like this : jets get : Randy Starks / DT Titans' 4th rounder in THIS year's draft titans get : David Barrett / CB Justin McCareins / WR * * JETS DRAFT PICK ( ROUND ? ? . YEAR ? ? ) imho , ALL depends on what draft pick we give up ? ?
